memory jog

I was just reading a new-to-me blog, Rurality (anyone who blogs Cat Parables is immediately added to my bloglines!), and her post today about a boat in the woods stirred a memory that I thought I’d share.
When my son was little, maybe three, we arrived coming home from a long day at work and daycare, [...]

four years in the making

We’ve been in our house almost four years and for four years, I’ve had foliage, but no gladiolas.

This year, we got a surprise.  I did not plant this, and I think I appreciate its beauty even more because I did absolutely nothing to create it.

It was a gift that I wasn’t expecting, and I wanted to [...]

fiber guild picnic

This Saturday was our fiber guild’s annual picnic out at Pia and George’s farm.  This year we had double the number of attendees as last year!
There were people we hadn’t seen since last year, but the conversations picked right back up.

There were people working on projects, of course.

happy earth day!

Thank you, Earth, for making it so hard to choose my favorite photos!
I hope to have something fibery soon.  My brain has been in a cloud – yesterday I cast on for socks and accidentally cast on 84 stitches instead of 64 stitches.  I kept thinking ‘these look awfully big’ but I also kept knitting.  [...]

two weeks in a nutshell

* OMG – my blog’s been hacked! Help! *
* Web host can’t help me and the hack has removed my edit rights so I can’t help myself *

* But I have a backup from three days before the hack!  Hooray! *
I have a finished object!  Yay!  But I can’t blog about it.  Boo.

winter canoeing

We went canoeing on Saturday.  The forecast called for a high in the 70s, but it was overcast (until we got off the water, then the sun dared to show its face) and felt quite a bit cooler.
The river is unremarkable in the wintertime.  We hoped to have a decent water level, but the prolonged [...]

things I like

Today’s version of Things I Like is inspired by Carole, whose recent post showed things around her house that make her happy.

What about you?  What things around your house give you a sense of warmth and bring a little smile to your face when you see them?  If you post pics, let me know, I’d [...]

Ideas for handspun projects

handspun mosaicOriginally uploaded by flwrhead

I love Flickr. So much inspiration, so many wonderful things people have created.
Jen asked what I was going to do with all my handspun and you know, I’ve been wondering the same thing. The colors are too varied for a wearable item larger than a scarf. I’m a pretty basic type [...]

Do you have a list?

Not a grocery list, or a “things to do today” list, but a list of accomplishments that you hope to achieve in your lifetime?
I was visiting Kelly’s blog and clicked on her “To Do” tab, thinking it might be a list of projects she plans to knit or books in the queue (the girl reads a LOT [...]

Wee Tiny Sock!

Look at the pretty packaging!  (I’m all about packaging – must be the French part of my ancestry).

Look at that beautiful sock!!!!!  It’s from Alley, a new knitter, a new blogger, and a new friend!  Can you believe she tackled a Wee Tiny Sock for her FIRST sock, and she did it out of EMBROIDERY [...]
