step by step, inch by inch

I am slowly getting some things done!
First up – another pair of gift socks!
Lynn asked me how I magically knew what size to knit gift box socks, which is a good question. When I start a pair of gift socks, I have in mind the recipient, but I don’t blog names in case they read the blog. Also, four women I’d knit socks for wear the same size, so there’s lots of leeway when it’s time to gift.
Speaking of the gift box…it’s time to upgrade.
I also finished a quilt top!
String quilts take a good bit of time, and I decided last minute to make it larger. I’m slowly working on piecing the back and I need to buy twin-sized batting, since it’s larger than planned.
I really love it, though. So bold! So graphic! So totally non-matching anything in my house!
Fibery things have largely fallen to the wayside, as I’m burning my way through the Sookie Stackhouse novels. Such fun, quick reads! I started with Book 6, read to Book 10, and then went back to the beginning and am now reading Book 3. Only two more to go and I’ll have read them all (in the span of three weeks)! Then I’ll pick up something a little heavier, but these have been a fun summer read.
As summer draws to a close, I’m looking forward to pulling out my wool and needles, snuggling under a quilt and whipping out a sweater or two. What about you?

WONDERFUL!!! I think you’ll be glad you have a quilt under your belt when you go to quilt this one :) Sookie Stackhouse – i’ve read them all! Lovely socks.

Great quilt! I’m gearing up to start a bed one. Not the one I was building in my head, though. That one wouldn’t hold still long enough to be defined. First up, though – some years-old WIPs…

You’ve been so busy! Everything is wonderful, too! Btw, quilts tend to end up being bigger than planned. ;^)

Beautiful socks and quilt!
I’m looking forward to knitting more socks (surprise!!), wearing the ones I’ve made, and maybe getting another shawl on the needles…and many pumpkin spice lattes with whipped cream to keep the autumn chill at bay!! :)

“So totally non-matching anything in my house!”
I love it. Nothing in my house matches. A couple of times I’ve been asked what style my house was decorated in (not by anyone who had ever seen it, of course). I usually say “random”.

Who says things need to match!? It’s beautiful and you’ll enjoy it.

I cannot wait to pull on some wool socks.
Your quilt is beyond amazing. Doesn’t go with my house either, but I love it to pieces.

Love the quilt top! Need to shake it up a bit once in awhile.

Wow, how do you have time to do it all?
Great socks! Lovely quilt! I’ve been trying to make more time for reading in my daily routine as well and just start as well an audio book in the car.

I absolutely adore that quilt top! I’m so impressed with what you’ve done. Since I know you’re going to ask, yes, I have worked on my quilt but not at all this past week. Don’t worry – I have a good reason: I finished juneberry!

Can you finish a few things for me? I forget what it is like….
Your quilt is striking! It will surely be a focal point in any room!
..you caught the light just right in the last photo..cosmos?

Wow! You’re like a one woman factory! First, the socks are, as usual, fab; second, the quilt is Ah. mazing., and third, the coreopsis (I think that’s what they are) are so beautifully fall orange I dare say I might actually be ready for fall.
Oh, and the first quilt top I made (still not a completed quilt, tyvm) matches NOTHING in my house either.

I am now officially in love with those quilts. I’m thinking about them, in general terms, all the time. Not quite obsessed, but I could be. Luckily, there’s too much else on my mind for them to get a foothold. Or brainhold. Yet.

OOh! I love that quilt top! Those are awesome colors together. :)

Your gift box is amazing to me…it’s only September and it’s full!! So impressive.
I love your quilt top…especially because it is primarily red and black and white. Whenever I get the nerve to start quilting, I know I want to make one that is primarily black and white with one striking color thrown in (and red right now is my first choice!).
Oh, the guilty pleasures of these types of series. I admit to have fallen into the hole on several…plowing through 4 or 5 in a day or two! I haven’t heard of this one though so next time I feel the urge to just read for a few days I’ll have to check these out!

*gasp* You were right. I DO love that quilt, it’s utterly gorgeous. Wow.

Great socks, and your string quilt is amazing!!

Your quilt is beautiful! I know exactly what you mean about new things not matching anything else, but really, how can you resist? I love the way the black squares “pop” out of the red…it makes it look almost 3D to me. Looks like the perfect blanket for fall cuddling. =)
