what I’ve been up to

The zinnias had a lasting effect.

After the natural colored mohair, I had to spin some COLOR!

I’d say I definitely found it!  Merino/bamboo, about 800 yards of heavy worsted.  No idea what it’ll be, definitely something girly!

After clearing my bobbins, I forced myself to get back to my MIL’s Parcheesi.

I finished the last square yesterday – now to knit 22 short strips for in between the squares.  Sigh.  I am already so over this.  But Grace is right, if you make yourself work on that project you’re sick of, once you get started you realize that you really do like it and with every row, you’re one bit closer to being finished!

*PSA* Miss Babs, who dyed the gorgeous yarn I’m using for the Parcheesi Afghan, has had an unimaginable disaster.  I don’t know what you can do, but I just bought a few ounces of her merino/silk (25% off! no fire damage!) in an effort to make us both feel better!  My heart goes out to her.

And then you can move onto the next project!  I got perfect gauge for Ravensong.  Perfect.  Gauge.  That never happens!  (I swatched with the white leftovers, since I don’t wind yarn until I’m ready to use it.  I’m also a bit nervous about winding the 1,000 yard skein of mohair.)

I think this will be a fast knit (on US 8s), which is good because I really need to finish the Fair Isle Cardigan AND I want to knit a slouchy cardigan from handspun (maybe two) AND I suppose I should get started on those Christmas stockings if I want to use them this year.  But – no pressure!  I’ll get done what I get done.  And it’s only August (almost).

So yeah, that’s what I’ve been doing.  You?

I’ve been playing hookey all summer, knitting only tidbits, and wasting all of my free time reading and swimming. Ha! I’m back in the saddle again, though, and trying to finish up some long lost WIPS before I cast-on for anything new. Your projects are lovely!

Oh… I love the sheen on that white swatch, very pretty.

Fantastic colors! I heart that big-time. Did you like spinning the merino/bamboo? I’m on the fence about whether I like it or not.

And Grace is right. Darn it.

Perfect gauge = good karma for the Miss Babs purchase. Oh, the heartbreak of all that yarn doing to waste…
I’m still working on B-Side. Didn’t get it done in time to go to Seattle but I hope I’ll make progress while there.

Yeah, um, I know what I said and all, but sometimes it helps to do something else for a little bit. You know, to take the edge off. That’s why I’m spinning right now instead of knitting. *cough*

    Your yarn is so pretty!

How sad for Miss Babs! At least it was only smoke damage, and there wasn’t a fire. I hope the insurance company does right by her. And the Kilz definitely works – sadly I know from experience.

Love the handspun! (both of them) The purples and oranges add some great touches to the pink base of the merino/bamboo. How do you like spinning the bamboo blend? I’ve spun merino/silk and merino/tencel, but not bamboo. Now I’m itching to pick some up at the next fiber fest I go do.

You had me at the zinnias, but you know that. Fabulous handspun!

Miss Babs…poor thing. She holds her head up high, and provides a shining example. (I’m so happy I bought crazy mad at TKGA when she finally got there.)

I love it ALL! The yarn is so, so great. It reminds me of Kaffe’s lines of reds; I can’t ever get enough of them. And your perfect gauge thingy looks so delicate and breezy. I say thingy because I’m not sure what its future is…What it’s going to grow up to be, I mean.

And the babs blanket/throw is gorgeous too! She’s going to be so thrilled!

The blanket is beautiful! I know what you mean about being over it, but you’re right that all those little bits add up fast. Your zinnia yarn is beautiful!

Put things in to the County Fair and won a few ribbons. Should equal a few dollars when I pick them up. ;-)

Bought a Great Wheel that needs a bit of work, but an awesome deal at only $30.

Have to figure out where to put all my craft stuff, so we can move a piano in.

    Not much. ;-)

Love your handspun! I’m curious how your afghan comes together.

I love the zinnia inspired handspun. It is beautiful.

This weekend, I sewed a dress. I finished everything but the hem. I was too busy crafting to blog about it, but I’ll make up for that!

Oh, I’m so glad that you got gauge…now I will patiently wait for you to get done the beautiful blanket and move on to what will become a gorgeous Ravensong. I haven’t knit a stitch in over 3 weeks (I’m not sure why yet but hopefully the mojo will come back soon)…so I have to pressure those who are knitting. It’s only fair.

Thanks for your lovely comment! And, I just love your blog – beautiful colors. I dream of owning a yarn shop one day myself… along with spinning my own yarn. One can never have enough yarn!
