summer of sox

It’s shaping up to be a summer of socks around here. Temps in the 90s, 80% humidity and no relief in sight.
These are the man socks I knit for the gift basket. Trekking XXL in decidedly man colors. I’m now three pair of socks to the good, woo hoo! We’ll see how many actually leave the house. Ahem.
Finished these while spending the weekend in Nashville with my mom, sister, niece and daughter. I remembered that my sister liked these socks way back when I started them, and after I saw all the work she’s put into making me a quilt – that I requested before I realized just how time-consuming making a quilt can be – I went ahead and gave them to her.
Pretty, no? I followed my Koigu One Skein Footies pattern, using two skeins of Claudia’s Handpaints in Lemon Ice.
I also got a sneak preview of my quilt!
Gorgeous!!! She couldn’t have picked better colors for me, I absolutely LOVE it! It’s really hers to blog about, but I couldn’t resist showing off. She’s so talented, and her talent is varied – she knits, crochets, quilts and now she’s into painting and is quite good. Take a look! I stand in awe.
I also finished my Denim Kaari sweater, but with the immense heat I’m not sure when I’ll get modeled pics. I’d hoped to in Nashville, but we never quite made it to the Parthenon! I’ll have to find someplace nice around here that isn’t my back yard, since the mosquitoes descend in droves if I’m outside for five minutes. Does that qualify as suffering for your art?

Love!
She’s doing a great job with the quilt and the socks are all wonderful.

Eeek – too much heat and humidity for me! Just got back from Atlanta, and fortunately it was a bit cooler than usual. It was actually pretty pleasant.
A pair of socks for a quilt? Pretty good trade!

Very nice socks, and I just love the quilt! How cool is it that you two can make things for one another.
Sounds hot and sticky. Yuck!

I don’t envy you the humidity but we would actually dearly love some sunshine for longer than four hours. The weathermen claim that we’re going to have a sunny weekend and in the 80s. This will be a jump from the low to mid-60s, with some dips into the low-mid 50s not uncommon. We’ve had so much rain that yards can quickly become a mud mess with much walking about. Sigh. I usually *like* rain, but could use a break.
Lovely quilt and it looks like she is doing the quilting by hand – impressive! I cheat and do that with my machine. ;-)

I loathe the humidity. Only thing I truly hate about the summer.
Love those socks! Especially the lemon pair. :)

Congrats on finishing the gift socks! I’ve really got to work up a stash of gift socks one of these days. I wish I had a good excuse for not working on my latest pair of husband socks, but I’m really just having too much fun with a sweater and shawl for me!

I’m so, so glad you’re liking the quilt progress, sis! I’m loving my socks and although I haven’t been able to wear them more than just trying them on with my clogs for a sneak peek of my own, I love them already.
I wish we would’ve had more “us” time this weekend; perhaps this could be the start of an annual get together? Especially the cheesecake part. Definitely the cheesecake part.

Great socks too!

So I have to ask, how do you just knit socks for the gift basket?Do you have a recipient in mind? How do you know they will fit??

Man colors? Those trekking socks would have a comfy home on this woman’s feet. The heat sounds horrible. Even KNITTING is suffering for your art, with wool in your hands. Even cotton in your hands.
You are lucky to have someone like that quilter in your life, no matter what the relation.

I love the colors in the man socks (I contend that they would make lovely woman-socks, too, except perhaps for the size).
Its wonderful that you can exchange craft-for-craft with your sister…you both know that the gifts will be appreciated.

IMO, you can’t have enough handknit socks :)
The quilt colors are beautiful!! What a wonderful and talented sister you have!

Those lacy socks are adorable! I’ve been pondering what to do with a single skein of Koigu… hmmmm…
