weekend projects

We had a busy weekend! Why does it seem like you work just as hard when you don’ t have anything planned as when you do? I guess it’s because there’s always something that needs doing!
The farmer’s market opened this weekend. Our tomatoes are still green, so we bought some to make a lunch salad for this week.
The veggies were so pretty I had to take a picture. There’s cucumber, tomatoes, radishes, green onions, lemon peel, parsley and mint – we added bulgur and feta cheese and will cube some avocado on top right before serving.
We got a bucket of local strawberries and I made individual strawberry cobblers.
The juice cooked over a bit, but was delicious! I could eat one (or three) every day.
SB bought me a snapdragon bouquet! One of the things I love about the farmer’s market is that they have different flowers from what I grow, and since mine are 2 inch seedlings, it’s nice to have some color now. Instant gratification for $4 – definitely worth it. The guy who grew these said he sows seeds in the fall so he has flowers sooner, which is something I’m going to try this year, particularly since I want to start a perennial flower garden.
I did find time to get started on my Fair Isle Cardigan. I’d hoped to get an entire color sequence finished, but I had to rip back several times because of stupid errors. Maybe I should brew a pot of coffee every time I pick this up to knit! The colors are definitely more pink/purple than I thought they would be – take a look at the original:
Looks a lot bluer, doesn’t it? But I’m using the exact colors specified, so I’m thinking it must just be a camera thing.
I hope you had a great weekend! I could use another!

Everything looks yummy, the knitting, the veggies and dessert! I long for home grown tomatoes.

You hit the nail on the head – there really is always something that does need doing! You made good progress on your sweater despite it all though!

That all seems like the most delightful kind of busy!

The cardi still looks fantastic – I personally love your colors.
Our farmer’s market just opened, and they are a little light on veggies right now, but they do have some awfully nice plants.

Love!

Okay, I have to ask…how do you get your white balance in your pictures so perfect? My pictures either end up too dark or too light and I can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong.

Camera thing, and not having enough length knit to give the colors room to show their contrasts and blendings. Persevere!
Our farmer’s markets aren’t up and running yet. Soon. *envy*

Farmer’s market? Tomatoes? Oh yeah, you live in a warm climate. Sigh.
I’m just planting my tomatoes and peppers.

The food you picked up looks yummy! We’re planting our vegetable garden next weekend (rain providing). I can’t wait! I hope to have a successful garden this year again (3 summer!)
Nice progress on the sweater!

Wow! I wish our farmer’s market was that colorful! Though, truth be told, I’m just happy we have a farmer’s market, and I’m sure I could find more colorful stuff if I went down to one of the bigger ones in the city. Perhaps the blue of the cardi will come out as you get more repeats? Looks lovely nonetheless :)

I too love snap dragons! They are so curly and lovely, you have excellent taste.
You know, your salad looks like Pico de Gallo. My first thought on seeing the photo was “PICO!!” and an intense craving for lime and tortilla chips.

“always something that needs doing”..yep ;-)

The Fairisle looks great and I am jealous, jealous, jealous of your early produce. Tomatoes ripen in August in my neck of the woods.

Mmm, avocado. I’m sorry, was there something else in this post besides avocado?

I love it when the Farmer’s Market opens! Looks like you got lots of yummy things. The colorwork looks great, though you’re right about the color difference. I hope you like the new colors as much as the ones you expected!

I’m loving all the colour!! Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!

Considering the past few days we’ve had more snow and mid-40s high temps, you can imagine just how envious I am of those red tomatoes and strawberries! I can’t even plant my tomatoes outside yet! And your cardigan is looking great!
