knitting old and knitting new

I took several projects with me on our camping trip because a girl needs OPTIONS, right? I’m also a firm believer that a road trip requires the casting on of a new project.
I just got Norah Gaughan’s Vol. 1 and cast on for the Jyri scarf. I used 100% merino yarn like the pattern specified (from the stash), but it’s not as fluid as the sample scarf. Basically, the pattern is what an unblocked simple lace scarf would look like – an egg carton. It will probably be frogged and I’m thinking of knitting it again with wool/silk handspun at a looser gauge. Maybe.
Purling 269 stitches every other row started hurting my hands, so on the drive home I pulled out a languishing project and finished it!
My BIL’s socks are finally, finally, finally done! I really love the yarn – Mountain Colors Bearfoot in Wilderness. I made my Genmachia Mitts out of this yarn and have worn them every day for the past two winters with no signs of wear.
It was such a relief to finish this project that I decided to start on my next gift socks.
Oh my. I’ve forgotten how much I love Koigu. Love knitting with it, love the color, love the fabric it makes, love the twist and shine of the yarn. Dangerous stuff, that Koigu! (pattern is Child’s First Socks by Nancy Bush)
And of course, two days after I buy three skeins and a pattern booklet, I get an email from my LYS that they’re having a sale. Isn’t that always the way?
But now I have an excuse to go back and buy more!

I’ve never felt the Koigu love so much, but I could wax poetic for hours about CTH.

Lovely! I’m jealous at the moment because you’re making so much more progress on your gift knitting than I am.
I sympathize with the thought of ripping out that scarf – I’m in the middle of tinking the row I just knit.

I agree with Lynn from Tucson but I have to admit I’m really smitten with those Bearfoot Socks! Really smitten!

Love the Mtn Colors socks! My Koigu socks faded and got very, very fuzzy — maybe I shouldn’t wash them in the machine? Live and learn…

Love Koigu! Though I only have one FO in it, it’s a Clapotis – real labor of love, but I still get compliments on it three years later.

Oh man! All of the projects looks so pretty. That pattern link scarf kind of looks like the big basket weave one that I did earlier this year, color and everything! But I like it in turquoise, for sure. I need to block that thing and take a pic to show you.
The Koigu (?) looks awesome. But I’m not buying ANY. MORE. YARN.
For now.

Both socks look great and I’m so impressed with how much gift knitting you are doing…what’s the pattern you used for your BIL’s socks? I have yet to knit with Koigu…perhaps I should buy a skein sometime in the near future! You know, all in the name of expanding my horizons!

Mmmm…Koigu. Speaking of that sale, I got home just in time! Wheee!

Haven’t knit with Koigu. THink the 100% merino softness will not last long with socks. But I’m just guessing.

Love the color of all the projects you’re working on now! Can’t wait to see them finished.
