back from the woods

What a great weekend! We hiked the Odum Scout Trail, which isn’t very long and is generally rated 5 out of 10 for difficulty, but let me tell you – it was plenty difficult for me! Considering this was the first time I’ve carried a pack since March, I actually feel pretty good today!
Here’s SB at the start of the trail on Saturday. There are a couple of nice waterfalls at the beginning of the trail, which is the most scenic part.
Most of the trail looks like this. Big rocks, little rocks, wobbly rocks.
The weather was beautiful.
Fall wildflowers are blooming (that’s a tall blue aster).
The trail offered a couple of scenic views, but our foliage this year hasn’t had the brilliance of years past. It was still nice to be up so high with a cool breeze and birds circling overhead.
I called this my roller-coaster tree. Makes me wonder what caused it to grow in such a fashion.
And – that’s it for the pictures. We had a wonderful campfire and a lot of fun. The soreness in my body today makes me glad to be home, but we’re already planning our next trip!
Thanks, everyone, for the anniversary wishes! We couldn’t have had a better celebration.

That looks like it was just what the doctor ordered! How lovely.
(And…where’s Carrie? Why am I first?)

What a beautiful record of your time in the woods. I’m pathetic with the physical exertion, so I never get out to do this kind of thing (I’d be miserable in a matter of a few minutes), but your photos sure do tempt me.

Lovely. If I had somewhere that looked like that nearby, I might hike too.

Happy anniversary! Glad your foot survived the fun. Love the picture of the rocks and trail. New England looks a lot like that.
Our leaves were also more subdued this year. Far fewer reds, and a week late.

Gorgeous – looks like quite a weekend.
That tree is wild — how do things like that happen?
