life in the fast lane

It’s been forever since I posted! Sorry about that. Sgt. Britty turned 40 last week and all my time and energy were focused on birthday preparations.
Yes, I did make him wear a black feather boa at his party! The party was a lot of fun, the people who were there seemed to have a great time! Especially SB, who deserved a great party!
I think I knit all of two rows on a sock last week, but I finished a Christmas gift the previous weekend:
My daughter asked me last winter for a pair of convertible mittens. I tried a couple of patterns but had gauge problems, and when I saw Kathy’s Wooly Glittens, I had to make them.
I’m hoping a good blocking will fix my uneven stitches.
They’re a little big on me, but my daughter’s hands are larger than mine, so I think they’ll be perfect.
For some reason, this picture reminds me of a rabbit.
I used Drops Alpaca, less than one skein of the red and a tiny bit more than one skein of the brown, size 3 and 5 DPNs.
One present down! I was in the thralls of colorwork, so I cast on for Pirate Mittens (to be converted to Glittens) for my son:
These yarns (Berroco Ultra Alpaca and Cascade Dolce) are definitely better suited for mittens than the Drops Alpaca. Look at the difference in the cuffs! Wool is a good thing. Alas, I will be ripping these back to the cuff and reknitting on larger needles, the body of the mitten is so tight I can barely fit my hand inside! I plan to get back to these this week, if I can put my new sweater project down…
More on that later!

Um, my hands might get cold this winter… (hint, hint)
Not really, but those are awesome mittens, both pairs!

Nice colorwork! I’ve steam blocked colorwork (when I’m in a rush) but a good wet-blocking does wonders for evening up stitches! What needle did you use for the pirate mittens? The cuff looks fantastic.

I agree it does have a rabbit look to it when you put your hand that way. Cool! Awesome job on the glittens.
Instead of pirates I have spiders in mind for a pattern for the niece’s fingerless gloves.

WOW! Those are really AWESOME! I’m totally jealous and completely rethinking my Christmas gift request (for me, not M). Just kidding – I totally trust you and I don’t care what I get, I’ll be happy with whatever! But man, those are cool! ;)

Blocking helps, who knows how much until the end!
Any party that has a male in a boa is a GREAT party.

I love the Glittins! I’m doing a pair of Frog Mittens for my mom’s Christmas. My first dip in colorwork and I’m loving it.

Don’t look, Lynn, she’s blowing the curve for the rest of us. I bet her shopping, wrapping and baking is done on, like, the 22nd, too.
