wooly bully

This weekend, for the first time since I can’t remember when, we had absolutely nothing to do. Nowhere to we had to go, no huge chores to be checked off the list, we could do what we wanted the entire weekend. It was heaven!
On a whim, I set up my carder yesterday morning and decided to card the Shetland fleece I got at SAFF in 2007. With the help of my trusty familiar, I turned this:
into this:
Ack – there he goes, “helping” again. (He helped himself to knocking over a full glass of tea this morning, all over the dining room table, chair and oriental rug – this is when I realized that it truly was Monday).
THIS is what I made – 12 scrumptious batts! It only took me … several hours … someone please tell me that it goes faster with practice!
Of course I had to spin some.
I spun eight of the 12 batts into 176 yards of two-ply. I spun this long draw, which I’d almost forgotten how to do, and it’s very lofty. I’m going to try to card and spin a basketful each weekend because if I know me, I’ll probably come home from SAFF with another fleece this year!
How was your weekend?

That was REALLY funny! My cat “Momma” (real name Suna, short for Anachsunamun) doesn’t help out around the house, but she does give me dirty looks like that all the time.
Part of how fast it goes depends on how large your drum carder is, and certainly how many passes your doing. But yeah, I’m sure as with almost everything else, the more you do it the more efficient you’ll get. I do three passes on average, and it goes pretty quickly. Just remember, it can’t be as slow as hand carding, no matter what!

For a minute there I thought you’d made a cat out of a fleece. *L*
Beautiful carding and spinning.

Well if you look at the color, you just about could spin and knit a look-alike cat from that wool. Too funny. My cats still think the wheel is an instrument of torture so they stay clear.

Yay! SAFF! I need to get spinning again…
Your cat is hilarious, and I don’t usually find cats hilarious.

Very nice!
It’s a very Monday sort of Monday, indeed. I woke up to the sound of my cat vomiting profusely, then went on to spill an amazing amount of hot coffee all over myself and the driver’s seat on the way to work…

He is gorgeous and he knows it.
Fleece from 2007? Sounds like you had it marinating for the perfect amount of time ;-)
More Shetland details plez–color? double-coated? –project plans for the yarn?

Good, but nowhere near the amount of productivity you had with your spinning. :) Looks great!

Lovely shetland! The cat is so funny. I like the yarn you did. Not sure if it gets faster with practice. Probably not, if you want a good job.
