roller coaster

The past month (has it really been almost a month since I posted?) has been a series of ups and downs. Something good will happen only to be counterbalanced by something bad. I’m trying to keep a positive outlook and focus on the good.
There has been knitting.
Quite a lot of knitting, actually. As you probably recognize, this is the Moderne Log Cabin blanket (link to pdf of pattern) and it was so much fun to knit. The sections toward the end do get long and tedious, but as soon as you’re thoroughly sick of them, it’s time to move on to the next section! I cast on the Saturday we got back from the beach and wove in the ends last Saturday – two weeks total, start to finish.
Except for the border, it’s knit with handspun, and measures 40″ x 55″. Here it is lying on our dining room floor, which is vacant at the moment because we’re awaiting delivery of a new table and chairs. Which leads me to the other big project that I’ve been working on – painting.
I’ve painted the walls and trim of both the living room and dining room over the past nine days. SB painted the ceilings.
Despite appearances, Mack didn’t paint anything. (You can see the old color of the dining room in this pic).
A fresh coat of paint makes everything look better, especially when new furniture arrives! We are finally replacing some of our Early American Divorcee Meets Bachelor Hand-Me-Downs and I can’t wait to have everything in place so we can relax and enjoy it!
Since I finished the blanket, I’ve been spinning for Abby’s Tour de Fleece Team Suck Less. Of course, I’m spinning Abby batts, but I haven’t taken any pictures yet. I will soon because they’re scrumptious. I can’t keep up with my teammates because my office has now blocked Ravelry in addition to blogs and flickr and our home internet has been out for five days, so … no social networking for me. I miss you guys. I miss seeing what everyone is working on and knowing what’s going on in your lives. Hopefully the cable guy will be able to fix our internet today (IF they show up, they bagged us yesterday) and I can make my blog rounds and pop into my Rav groups and feel connected again!
Till then, I hope you’re doing well. Mwwah!

Crossing fingers for smooth, flat riding for a while.

Love the blanket!

I’d say you are doing much better than the rest of us on the “progress” front … the blanket is wonderful and it is hard to knit and spin while surfing the net :) Don’t you know that your life is supposed to revolve around your employer and employer only?!?!?! *&#$ attorneys….

I miss you too. I was wondering what you’d gotten up to, but I know summer is a busy time for folks… especially families.
I’m sorry to hear that you’re having a down time. It kinda sucks when that happens during the summer because you look around and it’s gorgeous out (unless you live in NY where Summer hasn’t come yet). You WANT to be having a good time.
Your blanket looks lovely, and I especially like the fact that it’s made in handspun. Keep up the beautiful work, and hugs to you.

Verrrry nice blanket! (great perspective in the first photo!)
Good to hear from you :-)

Great blanket! I was beginning to wonder where you’d got to. I thought maybe the beach was so good you said screw it and stayed there…

There you are!
I hope things even out and run smooth for a long while. I love the blanket, but I may love the kitty on the ladder more. ;^)
Not much going on in my part of the world. I’m spindling for Team CrankyPants! and that’s taking up all my spare time and remaining brain cells.

Totally understand the life stuff. We finally feel like we’re getting our legs back after the six months of turmoil my family went through.
The blanket is beautiful and I’m in awe of your knitting speed! I’m on Team Suck Less too and just now started spinning. Had to finish carding my batts o’fiber.
Good to hear from you!

Knitting is a good partner during adversity. Praying things are smoothing out for you. The blanket is wonderful and all the more so because you spun the yarn! Wow and wow!

Hang in there. I think it’s something in the water this summer, as everytime I finally feel we are moving back to the less stress/more good, we do an about-face and move to the more stress/more bad end of things. I can totally sympathize.

Nice to hear from you, Ms. Blake!
I’ve brought my wheel on vacation but have yet to pull it out of its bag….

Hugs from Huntsville, hunny. Hope your roller coaster becomes a river boat cruise soon — slow and smooth sailing. I am in awe of your blanket of handspun; it’s gorgeous!

The Blanket looks awesome!
Don’t feel bad. My office blocked Ravelry this week too. I’m so bummed about it.

That blanket is beautiful! And I love that it’s all knit with handspun!

What a beautiful blanket! Hope things slow down soon too.

The blanket is awesome! Love the colors, the pattern, everything.
And I CAN’T WAIT to see the house and furniture in it! Post pics soon, please. ;)

Love the blanket! I have boatloads of handspun hanging around… maybe I’ll start my own blankie.
Isn’t it amazing the change a simple coat of paint will do for a room? It’s probably the least expensive change you can make and it makes the biggest impact. I love that color!

Welcome back! You’ve been busy even with the roller coaster. Great new colors in the house. I can’t believe that blanket only took two weeks! I joined Team Crankypants for TDF but haven’t been very productive. Still learning.
….and are you hooping?

Nothing better than lots of knitting, and re-outfitting the cave. You’ll be baaack.
July 16th, 2009 @ 4:26 am
The blanket is fabulous! I hope the kitty didn’t get paint in his fur (or vice versa…)

Dude, you knit that blanket in two weeks?? I am full of envy. What a great blanket!!! I love the colors & what a great design.
