remember macrame?

Last week after our guild meeting, I stopped by a local garden shop and bought several succulent plants.  I’ve always loved succulents and decided that this year, I would have a succulent garden (in a pot).  I finally got around to potting the plants yesterday.

One plant, however, just screamed RETRO to me.  Seeing it spill over the sides of the clay pot, it was like being in the 70s again and I couldn’t put it in with the other plants.  It needed its own special place.

It needed macrame.   I grabbed a ball of Cotton Classic and an old Coats and Clark pattern booklet, cut the lengths and started making knots.  30 minutes later, I had a plant hanger!

Now it hangs happily in my kitchen window – getting lots of sun and adding to the decor!   The booklet has two other, rather involved, patterns that I’m itching to try out, if I can find the right plants and yarn.

Kinda makes me want to go back to summer camp.

I really like how that turned out, which is interesting because I still have macrame flashbacks from back in the day.

I macramed curtains, doorways and plant hangers. That was enough of that.;-)
Truly a hanger is the best way to display a plant like that. Nice work!

ROFL. I macrame-ed a keychain in 5th grade and that was it. Are you going to make one of those yarn/doll/dried flower braids to scent your kitchen too?

I bought a macrame jewelry book a few months ago and some cord as a way to use up some of my bead collection, but I haven’t given it a whirl yet. I used to do a lot of it as a teen. Maybe I’ll give it a go this weekend, you’ve inspired me!

Cool! I did my first macrame last year when I made my wrist distaff and it was more fun than I was expecting. Your succulent looks very happy with his new digs.

Oh Girl, you totally take me back. Mom was WAY into macramé in the 70s. The plastic yarn in orange, and harvest gold with”ceramic” owl and butterfly beads…awesome. love the planter.
