January Spin-In

We’re back from the Destin January Spin-In and it was great fun!

The theme for this year was Over the Top.  One of my roomies, Diana, made this hat:

The bluebird of happiness is a combination of knit, crochet and felted fibers.

It was very creative and life-like!

Cindy was a hoot.  She made this hat from her very first handspun, mimicking commercially-made hats sold at fiber festivals.

Cindy’s sheep is definitely a ram.

I may have talked the girls into splitting a Romney fleece from Far Out Farms…  The fleece is actually gray with light tips, it has a LOT of dirt and oil in it, but when washed, the locks have incredible luster and crimp.  I plan to wash the locks carefully and hope to rent the guild’s Viking combs for processing – if they can be found!  If not, I’ll wash the fleece and save it for when I have combs of my own.

That wraps up the pictures I took at the Spin-In!  I bought a lot of stuff.  A LOT of stuff.  I made up for only going to the market once at SOAR!  I’ll take pics in the next few days, because I got some really pretty fiber.

I also finished knitting all the pieces of my January NaKniSweMoDo sweater!  I’m going to block it tonight and hope to finish it up while watching the Superbowl this weekend – a day late, but that’s okay (I’ve already started my February sweater).   It’s hard to concentrate on knitting though, now that I have all this wonderful fiber in the house!

Sounds like fun, though I’m still not sure what to make of the ram hat. Not sure I’d want sheep balls smacking me in the back of the head all day…

Yes, you did talk us into getting the Romney fleece… you didn’t have to twist our arms though, did you?! A first place fleece winner in the TN State Fair was a no brainer, no matter the dirty tips :) (BTW, that is a different farm you have a link for… this one does not have a website.)

It looks like a load of fun! I’ve got a load of fiber coming my way and I don’t want to feel guilty when I sit to spin. Maybe we can give each other permission. ;-)

I nearly spit my coffee all over the keyboard at the rear view of the ram hat. Cindy must have been a hoot!

I love the bluebird! Is all that wool from one sheep? Good gravy.

Oh what a great time it looks like you had! I have to say that I was drinking soda when I saw the “ram” part of the hat and I almost snarfed my Diet Pepsi. You need to post a disclaimer on that… do you really want to be responsible for me snarking my soda? Do, you? REALLY? :P

Everyone looks like they had a great time, good luck with the fleece!
