what a great day!

Why am I so happy today? Here’s a little list:
1. We went to Indiana to visit my family over the long weekend. Yesterday I woke up to this. I made my family go for a walk in the snow, nevermind that it was 16 degrees with 0 degree windchill. It was cold. It was clear. The snow pleasantly crunched under our feet and tasted about the same as I remembered – not as good as it looked.

2. Which enabled me to take pictures of my newly finished object in the snow, which I’ve never been able to do before!

Aura by Kim Hargreaves, knit from one skein Sublime Angora Merino in Husk. The pattern calls for Rowan Calmer, but I had a ball of the Angora Merino my hand, saw the hat, fell in love, and the shopkeeper at the Village Knitter kindly gave me the pattern so I could knit it.
I learned things while knitting this hat. First, when the Brits say “yarn forward” they mean “yarn over.” Second, it’s a good idea to read the pattern through and not ASSUME that the hat is knit in the round, or you may just end up knitting the hat twice. Third, this yarn is so scrumptious that reknitting is a pleasure, not a chore. I see more of these hats in my future.
3. The third thing I’m happy about today is that tomorrow, I’ll be here:

I’m going to the January Spin-In in Destin! Three whole days of spinning and hanging out with fiber folk! Don’t be a hater. I can’t help it that I live the good life.
4. Lastly, but certainly not least, today we get to say hello to a new president! I can’t even tell you how happy that makes me!!!
What makes you happy today?

The start of new and wonderful day for America. Watching the inauguration and feeling hope and joy. The inaugural poem by Elizabeth Alexander. I too got in the HY fiber club, though that was yesterday and I’m still happy. Have a wonderful time in Destin, Florida! Think of us frozen northerners from time to time, K?

From snow to sand in just a few hours? What they can’t do these days!
I have some news for you: it’s pretty freaking cold down here too (the satsuma is cozied). But that might good news with all the spinning!
I’m happy because we have eggs. You never think about how many things use eggs until you run out.

Very cool trip! I hope the spin-in is a lot fo fun. I need to try one of these trips sometime. I hope the Indiana visit was nice too – I’m from there but only go back for visits in the summer – much too cold for me in the winter.
