aftermath

Whew! What a great holiday! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas, if you celebrate, and if not, I hope you enjoyed your time off work!
I finished my Christmas knitting in the nick of time…

I’d say the wee scarf was a hit, no? I made it for my grandson, and yes, you read that right, I’m a…Nana. Aidan is the sweetest little guy and when my daughter told me he wanted a scarf for Christmas, I was happy to oblige! Plus, he knits! He’s very interested in the spinning wheel too.

I finished my mother-in-law’s socks.

It was hard to give them away. She tells me they fit perfectly! I absolutely loved knitting with Judy’s yarn and the deep, rich red color is just beautiful. I used the Tabi Socks pattern from Knitting Classic Style, substituting a petal toe. If I ever knit this pattern again, I will change the knit 3 together instructions to slip 1, k2tog, psso. I knit these with Crystal Palace US1 dpns which have a pretty sharp point, but those k3tog weren’t pleasant to execute.

After the gift knitting, it was back to the usual selfish knitting. It’s all about me, ya know? Here Mack is blocking the body of a sweater that I’m whipping my way through. I’m about 3/4 done! Hope to finish tonight. It’s super-simple and an appetizer for the upcoming NaKniSweMoDo challenge. More on that later – I promised a contest!
Before I won Judy’s Red Osier yarn, I purchased this Dream in Color Smooshy yarn in the Ruby River colorway for my MIL socks:

Which I obviously didn’t use, and so I’d like to gift it to one of you! All you have to do is leave a comment between now and midnight, December 31, and the winner and I will both start off 2009 on a good note – I’ll do a little stash-busting and you’ll do a little stash-enhancing!
I will probably be posting a lot this week because I have a lot to show you. I have finished objects I need to come clean about, a year to review, and a year to look forward to. What about you? What are your plans for 2009?

I can’t believe how big Aidan is now!

Hats off to your daughter for capturing Aidan’s delight! That is a great, great photo, one that you will cherish for a long time. Mack is so generous to help you block your sweater ;-)

Happy New Year! Beautiful socks, and beautiful SMOOSHY yarn. Looking forward to your FO pix, year in review, and year in advance. :)

Oh! What a sweet picture of your grandson. As for plans for 2009…I have no idea! I am digging the knitting classes I’ve been teaching and hope to do much more of that. Otherwise…I plan to knit. That much is certain.

WOW! Beautiful scarf and socks! Your Mack is looking so sweet… sharing his fiber with yours :) My plans for 2009 will include much more spinning than 2008!

What a cutie Aidan is! And such appreciation for handknits! It must be rewarded with more of them of course. :-) Super socks.

Your grandson definitely looks pleased! Good tip on the Tabi socks – I’ve been thinking about making them (without the split toe).

What a priceless photo! Bet he gets something great next year, too!

Okay…I can’t believe you’re a Nana! (And I’m not just trying to butter you up!) lol Seriously…wow. Wow. Okay, I’m going to quit typing now or you’re going to have a lot more “Wow’s” on here. lol

OMG, Aidan is a serious cutie. Love it.

I love all the colors in that scarf – and your grandson’s expression! That deep red is gorgeous as well.
So kind of your cat to help you with blocking.

I can’t believe the nana part either.
Plans for 2009? Knit for the DH, and knit only things that thrill me.

I love the expression on your grandson’s face as he beheld that scarf. Marvelous!

What a cute photo for Nana! You can’t be old enough, ya know… Pretty socks, too
December 30th, 2008 @ 12:21 am
Nana?! Well, I suppose since technically I’m old enough if I’d had my son a few years earlier, you could have a grandchild.
Love the socks! I also like your suggestion for how to do something other than k3tog. Never tried Dream in Color Smooshy, I’ve heard its soft.
Your scarf reminds me of a handspun I did that is looking for a pattern. I’ll have to check your project page. ;^)

Can’t wait to see your FOs. I’m planning an FO parade to start the year. Aidan’s face says it all! That’s one smart kid.

I love the photo of your grandson with his new scarf. It’s great he is interested in fiber arts. We need more males participating in this wonderful art.

A very impressive assemblage, I must say! I would love to join you for the NaKniSwea…whatever but if I get one or two done for the year (as I intend to), I’ll be thrilled.
Happy New Year!

A little knit man – how cute! I have a son (adult) who appreciates my knitting efforts and it is so cool to give him knitted gifts.
I’ve never knit with Smooshy yarn before …..
December 30th, 2008 @ 12:59 pm
I think it’s very cool you are up for the NaSweKnitMoDo challenge. It’s gonna be fun!
December 30th, 2008 @ 6:42 pm
Thanks for the message on my blog! I would love a chance to win this pretty yarn.
December 30th, 2008 @ 7:22 pm
Smooshy! I love that name, so descriptive!
And that is the best opening present face ever!
December 30th, 2008 @ 8:10 pm
I love that photo of your grandson! The socks are gorgeous, too – I’ll have to look for that book.
December 30th, 2008 @ 8:17 pm
You’ve been through a lot this year, so I’m glad things are ending on a high note for you and your family. I’ll echo the sentiments of everyone else here on Aidan’s expression. priceless. I see many more handknits in the kid’s future, but I would haven never pictured you as a grandmother.

You are far, far too young to be a Nana. Though I do have a soft spot for that term – I had a Nana and she was awesome. :)
