a little spinning

One of the things I learned at SOAR is that it’s okay, and often advisable, to step out of your comfort zone.  I’ve seen Crosspatch Creations batts online, but never in person, and since they had a blend specially made for SOAR, I had to get one.

It’s a crazy conglomeration of colors.

They provide instructions on how to spin the batt to make the most of the colors and bits of fluff that are the signature of their fiber.  They also have a very interesting smell.

and plied yarn.  I haven’t set the twist yet – I am the world’s worst about letting skeins of yarn accumulate and then setting the twist in a dozen skeins at the same time.  When they’re in danger of falling off the little table I pile them on, then I set the twist.  So even though I’m calling this “finished,” it really isn’t.

I like it.  It’s not a color combination that I’d normally choose, but I think it’ll be pretty knit up and I’m really curious to see how the little blobs of silk play out.  I kinda wish I’d bought the other SOAR colorway!

I also spun some superwash merino I dyed back in July.

I definitely like the way it came out.  Wish I’d written down exactly what colors I used!  Guess that’s why I’m not a professional.  :o)

And I have finished {drum roll please} my Lady Eleanor!  It needs a good wash and blocking and then the fringe because, while I am not a fringe person normally, I think the fringe is required for a Lady Eleanor.  Pictures soon!

That batt looks like it was so much fun to spin. It will make a very fun and lovely somethingorother, too!

OMG. Am I really here before Carrie this morning? I hope she’s not in labor or something….

Skeins look great! And I can’t wait to see Lady E in all her glory (and you’re right – I think the fringe is key).

Wow! That batt yarn looks fantastic :-) I am also totally not a clowny/slubby batt person, but that yarn looks lovely :-)

Both of those turned out really pretty. I have a hard time with slubs…I guess it’s the resulting bumps in the yarn. Drives me a little crazy trying to leave them alone. lol
Can’t wait to see the Lady Eleanor!

No, I’m not in labor, I was in transit. Sheesh.
Lovely spinning. I met the Crosspatch ladies at the county fair in Montana a year ago. She was the owner of the prettiest silver fleece ever – the one that set me on my “must have silver fleece” quest.

Your yarn looks fab! What are your planning to knit from it? I may use the skein I spun as accent in a woven shawl.

That is the second Crosspatch batt I have seen on blogs today, I think. Must be a nest of ‘em somewhere…

You did a really nice job with the SOAR batts. I was guilty of not enough vision, and didn’t buy any. I’m with you on the group finishing.
