500 yards and 24 hours

Last week I decided that I needed a little cardigan to wear to SOAR. Pullovers are great, but since we’ll be inside most of the time, they might get a little hot.
I cast on for the Shalom Cardigan (pattern in the sidebar, or Ravel it) three times – first with Noro Silver Thaw and knit all the way to the sleeves but I wasn’t feeling the variegated yarn so I frogged it. I started it again with some coned Shetland I bought from Webs ages ago, but I didn’t like the feel of the fabric I was getting. Obviously, the problem was the yarn I was using and nothing in my stash really sang to me. A trip to the yarn shop was in order.
Two skeins of Dream in Color Classy in Cloud Jungle + the Auburn football game + a mini-marathon of ANTM later, and voila!
I will have to get some modeled shots later – after I buy a coordinating undershirt. It’s really cute and I like it a lot. I made a few modifications due to using a worsted weight yarn instead of bulky yarn in the original pattern. I used smaller needles, cast on more stitches and omitted the twisted ribbing in the yoke. I loved the twisted rib, it’s what drew me to the pattern, but I only had 500 yards and needed to conserve yarn where I could.
I will get a lot of use out of this, once I get that undershirt!
This is my current mindless knitting project:
I’m calling it Royally Wicked. I’m using two colors of Rowan Felted Tweed – the ribbing section is a slightly lighter purple which is hard to see in the picture, but it is, trust me.
But tonight – while the boy is at his school’s Fall Gala – I’m going to the library to hunker down and finish these:
The participants at SOAR are given the opportunity to show off some of their handspun, handknit or woven items in a gallery, and I’m bringing my Selbuvotter gloves. I have one finger and the thumb to knit, and about a million ends to weave in! I can do it! And when I do, I can cross another item off my Must Finish list!
Have a great weekend!

I started my second SOAR garment today :-) somehow I think it’ll be evening knitting rather than wearing though!
The cardi looks really cute – I’m putting it in my queue. And I love your Selbus!

Love the cardigan! It’s very pretty. I spent some time yesterday in my lys and had the hardest time picking a mohair yarn for my tam. You made a good choice there for your cardigan. It’s a nice color and looks perfect.

I really like your version of the Shalom Cardigan w/o the twisted rib. Wonder what it would look like with 3/4 sleeves? May just have to give that one a try. My project list is growing with items I want to make. Shalom Cardigan has just been added. Thanks for posting the great sweater.
