revealed

Ah, you know I couldn’t keep you guys in suspense for long! The sneak peek in my last post is this little lovely from Gedifra:
KIDDING!!! Ha-ha! Isn’t that horrible?!? Bulky yarn, novelty yarn, AND a faux fur collar? What more could you (or the Bride of Frankenstein) ask for, huh?
Seriously, this is the sweater I’m knitting now:
The design is from Gedifra Highlights 33, and while that pattern booklet has its share of unusual designs, it also has several very nice sweaters I plan on making. This is the first.
Of course I’m substituting yarn. The dark yarn is Rowanspun, a discontinued fingering weight tweed I bought off ebay from Cucumber Patch (great price and great service). (Another aside – cause I’m good at asides – ever notice that you buy something “off” ebay, but you buy something “from” Webs? Why is that?) They don’t have any more of this color (appropriately named “sludge”), but they do have a nice purple left. Anyway, I bought two bags of this and it’s a good thing because I just started the second sleeve and I’m on the 7th skein. The light yarn is Rowan Felted Tweed and I am IN LOVE with this yarn! The alpaca content gives it just a touch of a halo and talk about soft! I definitely see more Felted Tweed sweaters in my future.
But for now, I’m going to try to stay faithful to this one. I’ve knit one sleeve, the very long (17″ before the armholes!!!) back and the colorwork on the second sleeve. The urge to start something new has already begun, so last night I put aside the knitting and spun some beautiful Abby batts (I’m pretty sure they’re the same as this) while we watched the series finale of The Wire. Guys – I’m not usually drawn to police dramas, but this is the best series I’ve ever seen. Each season looks at a different aspect of the problems surrounding crime, politics, inner city schools, drugs, homelessness, etc. and the topics are covered in an intelligent, compassionate and encompassing manner. I highly, HIGHLY recommend it. Add it to your queue. NOW! :o)
And have a great weekend!
(Bossy, aren’t I?)

It’s gorgeous! And I think I can answer your “off” and “from” question. Webs is a store, so you buy it from Webs, but you can’t really buy something “from” eBay, as they are not the actual seller, so you bought it “off” eBay, but “from” Cucumberpatch :) I love the colours you chose, I can’t wait to see the main design!

You had me going there for a second! I’m glad it’s not the project from the first picture. I think it’s horrible too. But your choice, how wonderful!

Wow. You scared me there for a moment.
I like your color choices for the “real” sweater much better!

Good choice…although that first one has me wondering what wool they recommend (and how they make) that fru fru collar…..I would imagine after washing it, you could poof it up with a pair of hand cards…wow…

Holy cow, that top photo is one seriously ugly sweater. Makes me really miss the website, You Knit What?

As long as your not telling me to make that first sweater, you can boss me all you like.

i’m so glad you’re NOT making that first one. the very thought made me question your taste in knitting projects. i mean, who carries off something that feathery other than Miss Piggy or Carol Channing? Or maybe that old blonde comedian with all the face lifts who isn’t even funny? but the REAL project? oh, i love that rowan. it looks like a blast. and the colors are wonderful, too.
