is finished!
In what was probably the fastest FO photo shoot in history, I had SB snap a few pics after work yesterday. We had to work fast – I was being dive-bombed by mosquitos!
I’m pretty happy with it, particularly as fast a knit as it was. I would’ve had this thing done in two weeks if I hadn’t taken time out to knit the sleeve of another sweater (more on that later).
My only regret is that I didn’t follow the cable pattern on the sleeves, thinking that more cables = more bulk and I didn’t want to add bulk to my upper arms. What I didn’t consider, however, was that the cables would’ve taken up excess fabric, so the sleeves are a little loose for my liking.
You can see a bit of the excess fabric in this photo. It’s less noticeable with a blouse underneath, so that is how I’ll be wearing this sweater.
I’d considered omitting the cabling on the back, but I’m glad I left it in.
All in all, a very wearable, very comfortable sweater for fall!
Here are the stats:
Pattern: Valpuri by Berroco (free!). I knit the medium on US 6s, which should’ve meant 3″ of negative ease at the bust, but as you can see, there is no negative ease in this sweater. Probably the cotton more than my gauge.
Modifications: I lengthened the sleeves and only did the criss-cross cable, omitting the bulkier cable.
Yarn: Classic Elite Classic Silk, about 7.5 balls. This is nice yarn and not as hard on the hands as your run-of-the-mill cotton. Which is good because it doesn’t have a run-of-the-cotton-mill price! There was some debris, but nothing to get upset about, and only two knots.
Onto the next sweater! I’d like to have 3-4 new sweaters before the end of the year. I may be crazy, but my wardrobe needs new sweaters and I have all.this.yarn that needs knitting! So why not?!?

oh drat! that’s just typical… made an adjustment and then your sleeves are baggy. it’s really lovely. the color suits you. and the design is darling, too. i avoid cables and too much fuss on my arms because i think it makes them look even larger than ever. and i’ll never be able to pull off one of those chucnky knit sweaters made on US 15 or so.

It looks great! Very flattering, and the excess fabric on the arms isn’t really noticeable.

Brilliant! I love the color too. And I like loose sleeves, so if you find you don’t care for them, you’re welcome to send the sweater my way. :)

That is a great sweater in a great color! I love cables; they look so complicated and cool but are not that difficult. I just bought a pattern that requires DK weight yarn, 5.5 st/in — would Classic Elite Silk make a nice fabric at that gauge? I’m always too warm, so merino wool, as called for in the pattern, is not my first choice.
Thanks for the picture of yourself!
