I decided to take your advice

and I’m plowing ahead (knitting on?) with the sweater. I whipstitched the sleeves together and tried it on and it wasn’t totally hideous so it continues to live.
Here’s what it looks like on Maude. It looks about the same on me. Except for the flat torso, Maude has me beat there. But I’m working on it.
Anyway, the things I like most about this sweater are (a) it looks like a comfy, throw-over-a-tank, wear with your jeans kinda sweater and (b) the shawl collar. It just says “snuggle” to me. It’s the kind of sweater I’d wear to a football game or to play in the snow, if we ever went to football games or had snow. Don’t laugh. If you lived in Alabama, you’d be dreaming of football and snow right now too!
Just as a reminder, this is what the sweater looks like:
See what I mean? Does that not look like the most snuggly sweater ever? Also, I think Maude is in need of some serious bling. Look at that dress form! Wow.
I decided to mostly ignore the priority given to knitting the rest of the sweater as dictated by the pattern – the front, back and collar. First I knit the back:
Pardon my guitar there, I had to get in a few songs this morning to keep my Super Rockin Expert status.
As you can see, the back of the sweater that was knit sideways is much longer than the front. I am putting my faith in the pattern that it’ll work out. The 2×2 ribbing that IS the back may be changed to stockinette when it’s all said and done, but it’s only 40 rows so I’ll worry about that later.
I next knit the collar.
This, THIS is going to be the deciding factor. I hope to attach the collar tonight and if I like it, all will be well with the world. If I don’t…well, it’s been an enjoyable knit and a nice break from itty-bitty needles.
Keep your fingers crossed for me!

If you don’t like the collar you could always add another style of collar. I still think it will be a lovely flattering sweater (and I’m not partial to shawl collars so I would have dumped it anyway).

That is going to look good. Yeah, my Maud dress form is plain and gray. (That’s weird we named them the same name)

Now I need a dress form, just so I can mosaic it! That rocks!
Of course, it would probably go the way of other mosaic projects around here, and I would risk cutting myself (or snagging yarn) on ungrouted, cemented bits of glass for years to come.
Sigh.

I have to say, that is the most intriguing sweater I’ve seen in a while. I stared at the pictures for a long time. I hope it works out okay, because the bit that you’ve knit so far looks great.

Yes, that is definitely a throw-me-on, wear-with-jeans, snuggly kind of sweater, the kind we love. It’s lookin’ good!

Oh, I think it looks GREAT! I do love that design – it really is a sweater to make you long for fall if these 100-degree day’s weren’t enough :) I hope it works out!!

That’s so true about not knowing until that last scary moment when you put it on and look in the mirror.
Maude totally needs bling.
