Random Thursday (now with pictures!)

1. How’d it get to be Thursday already?
2. I decided which socks to start.
Since this is a very generous hank of yarn (480 yds), I’m going to start a second sock from the center of the ball, knit until it’s as long as the first sock, and then go back and forth (maybe on one needle! Ooh, that’ll be exciting!) until all the yarn is used up. They may be knee socks. The craziest, funkiest knee socks ever.
3. I only lost a half a pound last week. I was disappointed when I got on the scale, but instead of letting it get me down, I decided to work harder. And also cut out the wine (I went a little overboard last weekend).
4. I’ve been doing a lot of swatching. And frogging of said swatches.
My swatching takes the form of starting a new project, knitting five or six inches, then measuring it. The above sweater back (Lush & Lacy Cardigan) was supposed to measure 20″ and it’s pushing 30. Like me! ;o)
5. I have some handspun I forgot to show you.
I dyed the roving (Corriedale Cross) and I couldn’t wait to see what it’d look like so I knit up a little swatch.
I know it looks like Fruit Loops, but I don’t care. I love it.
6. Now I’m spinning some Romney from Fantom Farms that a friend picked up for me at Rhinebeck.
It’s not as purple as it appears. It’s one of those blues that is impossible to photograph, and I’m really loving spinning it. I am spinning this with a purpose. I have more Romney in a gorgeous plum-purple color and I’m thinking mittens. The annual beach trip with the in-laws is coming up soon and I know I’ll want a small project to work on in addition to socks. I’m thinking about these. In case you’re not on Ravelry (is anyone NOT on Ravelry?), it’s the Double Thick Mittens by Adrian Bizilia, designer extraordinaire. I haven’t even read the pattern yet, and I’ve never done any double knitting (which is what I’m assuming the “double thick” refers to, so my pattern choice may change. I also have to see if I’ve spun fine enough to knit mittens with a US 0.
7. For not having much to say, and relying on a random post, I sure am wordy!

Those socks remind me of sweet-tarts. Now I want candy!
I LOVE the blue/purple color of that mitten yarn. It’s my favorite color!

Your spinning is beautiful! Love the colors….makes me think of flowers and candy. Two of my favorite things!

That first yarn is some of the happiest-making sock yarn I’ve seen in a while.
And the handspun is lovely too. I know what you mean about some blues that just don’t photograph well.

Love the socks but the yarn you spun is extra fun!

That Romney is a gorgeous shade! And I can’t believe how fine you’re spinning it. No matter how hard I try, I can’t seem to spin fine singles. It’s a mental block. Anyway, the handspun looks great knitted up. It’s hard to stop knitting with handspun once you start isn’t it? You just want to keep going to see how it’ll look next. Beautious!

Everything looks very beautiful! So much color! That Romney is perfect!

I LOVE the handspun! The colors are great! :-)

The handspun is gorgeous! Is that purple-y blue stuff laceweight? I’m jealous!

that’s so funny, my thought was the same as carrie’s: Sweet tarts! love the socks, but that skein you hand-dyed? oh, it’s lovely, too! how do you get that blue roving spun so finely? bet you’ve spun for a great while, it looks so uniform!

How soon they forget their sugar products….It’s FROOT Loops, not fruit loops. I’m just sayin’. And WHEN, WHEN are you going to sell/give/whatever me some handspun? Sheesh! Oh yeah – I don’t think it looks like Froot Loops at all. I think it’s springy and bright and lovely.

I like the Fruity yarn. Yeah, I know it is Froot, but whataver. You swatch much the way I do

The Fruit Loop yarn is great!
I love the blue of your handspun – those mitts are beautiful. I must be missing some info — I thought double knitting meant 2 strands of yarn…

Who doesn’t like fruit loops? I love posts with lots of pictures!

I see the Froot Loops yarn being used in a fair isle design with the main color being a solid …blue, perhaps from the variegated yarn….Wonderfully cheery, whatever you do with it.
Those double thick mittens, BTW, are stranded, not double knit, I think and they look like a project I will have to put on my to make list. Thanks for sharing.
