messy tuesday

I first read about Messy Tuesdays on Mel’s blogFelix has dubbed it anti-”pinnyporn” and as soon as I read her thoughts on the matter, I knew this was something I had to participate in.  We all try to present our home in the best light possible, making sure the clutter is off to the side, out of the viewfinder’s range.  But if your house is like mine (and I suspect, like Jane‘s and Alicia‘s and every other blogger out there), there are piles of crap – to use the technical term – here and there, perhaps everywhere, that deserve their day in the sun.  Or on the net.  Here’s mine for today:

CIMG0028-1.JPG

This is the top of the armoire in my bedroom.  From left to right we have:

The pile of books I’ve read so far this year.  The Secret Life of Bees made me cry the most, but The Robber Bride stayed with me longer.

My lion that I’ve had since childhood.  He plays Frere Jacques and his head moves ever so slightly.  He’s up there for protection.

Behind my lion and book stack is a hat box holding mostly straw hats that only come out during the summer.  The leather hat on top was bought in the French Quarter when I had too much available credit and not enough common sense.

Look at my poor empty yarn bowl.  I obviously don’t have enough yarn.

Handy-dandy swift.  Behind the handy-dandy swift, in the straw basket, is a cone of yarn I got from Webs a long time ago and that I’d actually like to use to make a sweater of my own design.  The problem is – the yarn still has machine oil on it and isn’t the most pleasant thing to knit with.  It washes up beautifully and I could wind it off into skeins and give it a good washing but I haven’t resolved which is worse – knitting with scratchy yarn or weaving in ends.

On the far left corner is the Hexacomb Cardi, still waiting to be seamed and en-buttonerated.  I know I should finish it but it’s hard to get excited about finishing something you’re not going to wear.

Behind Hexacomb is a gift box that now holds buttons, special stitch markers and other fibery tools.

You can barely see a skein (or two?) of handspun there on the right edge.

Wow, I can fit a lot on top of my armoire.  All these things hide the dust rather well, so I’m inclined to leave them there!

And have a messy Tuesday!

So, I wasn’t going to comment until I read “en-buttonerated” I absolutely love that word, and I’m pretty sure it will become part of my vernacular now. Thanks! I also have serious envy of that swift. It’s so much prettier than mine!

Hurray for Messy Tuesday!! I completely missed it last week, but have a couple shots for tonight if I can get it together :) I can’t even try to expand on felix’s manifesto or some of the other great feelings out there that have been written about it! It just totally hits home for me.

I love your Lion. He is such an appropriate part of this great mess :)

Hmmmmm, which room will I photograph first if I want to play along? Love the lion, and I want a yarn bowl. Are they available locally?

WHAT THE EFFE! That “lion” refer to is RUFUS, and if I’m not mistaken, he is M I N E. I think he at one point MAY have been yours but then you didn’t want him anymore and I inherited him, much like the scratching monkey T-shirt and various Garanimal wardrobe pieces. Mmm-Hmm. I know what I’ll be reclaiming when I come visit!
