spring fever

I can’t concentrate; I have no attention span whatsoever. I spin a little and then stop. I knit a row or two and stop. I found buttons for my Hexacomb cardi but have I finished seaming and sewn them on? Nooooo…..
All I can think about is redecorating our home. I’m addicted to HGTV and Design on a Dime. Those people kill me – what they’re able to accomplish with $1,000! It’s amazing. And it’s started me thinking about all the things I want to change around our house and the things I can do without spending a lot of money. Purchasing new furniture is a priority since our current decor is a blend of Early American Divorce and Thirty-Something Bachelor. We’ve been in the house for almost three years but most of our money has gone towards necessary repairs – a new roof, new water lines, new HVAC system. Things it’s nice to have but also things that don’t give that “ahhh, I like my home” feeling when you walk through.
However, new furniture is expensive. But “new to you” furniture is right in my budget! Behold our old sofa:
Slipcovers are the bane of my existence.
Pretty awful, huh? The sofa is probably 13 years old, the cushion is ripped, it creaks when you sit on one end. Don’t even get me started on the slipcover, which looks good for about five minutes – until someone sits on it. As I am the only person in the house capable of applying the slipcover to the sofa, it is the demon in hell set aside just for me.
But Voila!
Thanks to the joy that is Craigslist, we have a new (to us) sofa! No slipcovers! Now we just have to do something about that Salvador Dali print, tsk tsk tsk.
But first I’m going to finish the fireplace redo that’s been ongoing for two years.
Then I’m going to paint the kitchen cabinets. And repaint the kitchen. And shop for more bargains. And build some shelves. Anybody want to trade me a jigsaw for a spinning wheel?
KIDDING! JUST KIDDING!!!

I’m sure you’ve noticed on all home design shows no one ever SITS on a slipcovered anything. It’s all an elaborate ruse. I’ve seen and sat upon the new sofa and it’s lovely!

I can totally relate as we are pricing a new AC unit now, and I think what all I could do around the house with that money. Oh well we have to have it.

Great couch find.
I have never been able to use slip covers – I think they should be held in reserve for “staging your house for sale” and for family visits that you would like to keep brief.
My mother and I are both addicted to HGTV. Design on a Dime is great, and since we are hoping to sell our house within a year or so I have also been watching the shows that fix houses up for selling. Some of the things they do are common sense (I am not sure where the senses of the people they showcase are) but some are great ideas that don’t cost too much. DH hates when I watch a lot of HGTV becasue he knows that his Honeydo list will grow….
