so close…

I’m almost done with the first sleeve of my Hexacomb Cardi!

CIMG0002-1.JPG

I practiced complete project monogamy until Sunday afternoon and got all the way to the sleeve cap of the first sleeve.  The body is knit in one piece and then divided for the sleeves.  I’d made the armhole deeper than the pattern called for, and needed to compare the sleeve cap to the body, but didn’t have the body with me, so I put it aside for a bit.  I looked at it this morning and figured out what I need to do (I think – please Yarn Goddess, don’t strike me down!).  My plan is to finish the first sleeve and knit the second sleeve tonight so tomorrow night I can have a seaming party!  Woo hoo!!!

Can you believe I forgot to post about these?  I finished them the night I stayed with Meg and wore them the next day.  btw – if you ever get the chance to stay with a yarn shop owner, do it!  Her house is full of beautiful yarn and roving and SO much inspiration!

Yarn:  Turkish by Adrian of Hello Yarn

Pattern:  Ridges and Ribs by Criminey Jickets, but I slipped my stitches purlwise

I couldn’t figure out why I had pooling on one foot and not the other and then realized I’d dropped the foot stitches down by 8 on one sock – the sock that pooled.  I don’t dislike it enough to rip it out and reknit it.  This is a great pattern for handpainted yarns, especially if you keep the same stitch count!

This is my “purse sock-in-progress.”  Lemon Ice by Claudia Handpaint, bought in Indiana last year, my four row lace pattern.  I never wear yellow; I have nothing against the color, it just makes me look dead.  That’s the good thing about socks – you can wear colors you’d never normally wear!

I’ve found that knitting and spinning have changed the way I think about color.  I’m much more open to different color combinations and stepping outside that comfort zone of gray, brown, black and white, with the occasional teal.  What about you?  What colors are you now knitting or spinning that you never would have imagined using?  And do you only wear them on your feet, or has your wardrobe changed as well?

I don’t knit sweaters fast enough to step outside a comfort zone yet, but my socks and sock yarn stash are in every color of the rainbow! My favorites are the acid green that I received in sockapalooza last year.

Gorgeous socks! Strange, though, how the yarn hit that pooling spot even with the slipped stitches. I thought that the varying yarn usage would avoid that. What beautiful colours!

Yeah, a Hexacomb on the horizon – and I love those socks, the color combo looks great with that pattern.

I’m with you! I have definitely branched out in my color choices since I started knitting. I like to look at the colors so much, and sooner or later I stop just looking and start knitting, then wearing! Neutrals & greens were my entire wardrobe – now I have light turquoise & lavender, two I would never have dared to wear – orange, who knew I would fall in love with orange (only for my feet though!) Still an awful lot of green & brown, but I can’t help it, I still love them – although now I love all the different shades in between that I never wore as well. Your yellow socks will be so great – happy feet!

I love neutrals but my mom thinks that i need more color. so i try to make something, usually in the summertime, out of a color that isn’t a neutral. right now, i am making the bleeding hearts stole by anne hanson out of alpaca cloud in the autumn colorway. It is a dark orangey color. definitely not my first choice but i couldn’t refuse the yarn.

The Hexacomb Cardi looks great…nice pattern and color!

And I liked how your sock pooled!

I seem to have been drawn in an opposite color direction since I started spinning. I used to be a very colorful person, but now I find so much variation within one fleece…and go for the natural tones of grey and brown and black and white!

That cardi is going to be beautiful; I can’t wait to see the finished product. Love both pairs of socks, too! I have to say I’m partial to the lemon ice ones, mainly because I’m so very ready for spring and they just look sunny.

Pretty sweater. I am back to CPH. We had a week apart-the right front spent spring break in Pelham or Hoover. I have abandoned the sock again. Anyway, your socks look great. I love pooling.

I love the color you are using for the Hexacomb cardi. It looks like a fun, and relatively quick knit. Actually, it’s on my to-do list (or should I call it my wish list?), and I can’t wait to see your finished version. But then again, that may spur me on to abandon my WIPs and cast on for something new!

I find that I use sock knitting as a way to break out of my color rut. My wardrobe has a lot of black and red, but I use nearly every color of the rainbow for my feet. I’m like you, I like the color yellow, it’s just not very flattering with my coloring, but I’m not opposed to wearing yellow socks! Yours are lovely, BTW.

    nice work!

i’ve always been obsessed with color and have never been afraid of wearing it. i have an orange puffy jacket for god’s sake. but lately i’ve been wearing more neutrals with colorful scarves and socks. go figure.

So many pretty things! I really like the pattern on that cardi, love the colors in the socks. Like you, I can’t wear yellow, either,
so yellow socks would be fun.
