I swatch for fun.

When I’m in between projects or doing something that requires more of my attention than my current knitting project will allow but sitting empty-handed makes me feel listless, I swatch.  I’ll often grab needles and yarn and cast on and just knit.  No project in mind.

Doing this allows me to see how the yarn works up on different needle sizes.  This is particularly useful for handspun, which doesn’t have a recommended needle size or pattern!

This is a little experiment skein.  I took three mini-batts and spun one strip from each into narrow singles.  My goal was to create a striping Noroesque yarn.  It’s hard to tell in the knit fabric, but the brown/blue swatch is actually two different colorways.

I knit this just to play with yarn and honestly, was a bit disappointed in it.  I couldn’t look at it and SEE what it wanted to be.  It wasn’t speaking to me.  So I put it aside and last night it occurred to me that this might be a candidate for entrelac.

What do you think?

Just blog-hopping over from Carrie’s. WOW! That’s pretty yarn. Yup, you’re teal. Your comment cracked me up, reminding me of a college boyfriend who was voted “Most Unique.” He always wondered how you could be “most” when something is either unique or it isn’t ; )

Yes you should try entrelac. The colors in the yarn do look great together.

    Ooooh! Pretty!

Entrelac could be great. Or some sort of ripple/chevron scarf?
