madness

I’ve cast on for a new project.
I couldn’t help it; it was just so … fluffy.
It’s one of the new patterns available on Interweave’s website, the Airy Cardigan.
I saw it and I couldn’t stop thinking about it. I had an enormous hank of mohair I bought at SAFF in my stash – 750 yards of it – which is enough to knit the 39.5″ size.
I swatched with three different needle sizes to get gauge and settled on a US 8. My obsession was such that I cast on last night using the only US 8s I own – aluminum straights.
Aluminum straights are slippery. Mohair is slippery. My descent into madness has begun.
Damn, it’s pretty.

Wow, no kidding. After my purple sweater, mohair still makes my skin crawl a little, but I know your cardigan is going to be beautiful!

I love this cardigan… i loved it when it came out in one of the past issues of IK, but I have a Love/HATE relationship with mohair. I love mohair, hate knitting with it ;) The color you purchased is beautiful!!! Is it the lighting playing tricks on my eyes or is it not quite a solid color?

The sweater is gorgeous, but mohair is one thing that makes me break out all up and down my arms when I knit with it. I can’t imagine wearing a sweater in it. LOL I’d be doing some weird freak dance trying to scratch everything at once. ;-p

It IS pretty! Don’t switch to plastic needles to solve the slippery problem – you’ll end up with lots of static electricity (I learned this the hard way)!

It’s so pretty! But it looks superfine, is it like working with spiderwebs? Without the can’t get it off of me feeling, I’m sure.
