The thwarting continues…

At our January guild meeting, we learned Cat Bordi’s mobius cast-on and started her mobius cowl pattern. The cast on was a breeze once I got the hang of it, and I was several repeats into the pattern before I put it aside. I grabbed it on the way to a doctor’s appt. Tuesday and now it’s finished! It’s not exactly as pictured in the pattern.
It hangs like a big blob around my neck. I used the recommended yarn and exact needle size. I did not make any mistakes. I may as well have hung the skein around my neck! Ah well. It was quick. It was easy. At least it feels good.
This is the other project that’s kicking my butt. It’s the Tweedy Aran Cardigan from an old IK that was gifted to me, but now it’s available on IK’s website. (btw – I did NOT plan to make the same color as in the magazine. I ordered the yarn and THEN settled on a pattern). I need to rip back 3 rows because I’ve already fudged up the cables by not consulting the errata first. I was really excited to knit this, my first real cabled project - and now IK has gone and republished it so everyone and their brother will be knitting it, and it’s not so bright and shiny anymore, ya know?
Maybe I’ll stick to the spinning awhile longer…
This is the last of four batts from Miss Babs. They coordinate pretty well, don’t you think?
The one on the far right is merino that I dyed and then overdyed, but I think it’ll tie them all together pretty well; they all have a turquoise base. I’m thinking about another handspun sweater, but I’ll have to do more dyeing and spinning before I have enough yardage.
Which is probably a good thing!

Don’t give up on the sweater. It’s doubtful you’ll see many in your area and it’s a beauty! If the mobius keeps you warm (and it’s pretty, too)…then it’s a success. You’re being too hard on yourself. The spinning is fantastic!

Your handspun is loverly, but you have to stop luring me to fiber sites, E — I don’t need any more fiber! Of course, I suppose I could console myself with some batts from Miss Babs while I wait for that danged Ohio post office to get its act together. Yes, that’s just what I’ll do…

Ooooh…this is hard. My wheel’s been away for repair for two months now. The withdrawal ain’t pretty and looking at other people’s lovely handspun doesn’t make it easier!

LOL! That cardigan is very similar to one that a coworker wears. Just yesterday I told her I wanted to take a picture so I could recreate it, and she said, “Oh, I’m sure it’s a standard pattern out there somewhere!” Now I see this one you’re knitting, and it’s thisclose! Fear not, just because it’s available and 100,000 people just bought the pattern doesn’t mean they’ll all start knitting it. It’ll probably sit in the ravelry queues for a while, until you show pics of yours, then we’ll all think, “I MUST knit that!”

Those are lovely new yarns you spun up! That sticks with the sweater. It takes awhile to decide on a pattern and it is nice to do something unique.

Oh the roving is gorgeous…how I wish our wheel was fixed!
I know what you mean about the shini-ness of the pattern. I actually hate when I have to consult errata even. ugh. Too much back and forth.
That’s a shame about the Moebius – BUT people might look at you askance if you just wore the skein, they will think your artsy with the Moebius. ;-)

The Aran is looking lovely! I like the color of the yarn you are using…is it your handspun?

I am LOVING the last turquoise handspun on the right! The colors are so rich and deep, really lovely. The other three are very pretty, too; it’s just that the last one is my fave. I like the cowl thingy too-does it not look like it’s supposed to? More times than not, you’ll get more compliments on the things that don’t turn out the way they’re supposed to. Strange, but true.

Your handspun yarn is so pretty. Love the cardigan and the yarn you picked out for it. Maybe you will think differently after a little time out.

I know – I hate that.
I started that sweater 3 years ago – though I re figured for DK yarn, so the scale is quite different. It is really a great pattern – don’t let the public-ness get you down.
Maybe I’ll cast on for a front or something, move that unfinished thing along.

If it’s any consolation, I’ve had that pattern and yarn for it for 3 years … and my heart sunk too when I saw that IK had republished it. Argh.
I can one-up you on horrible knitting disasters, though. Just ask me. I’m so traumatized I haven’t been able to blog about it.
