I want to cuss like Cartman

Look at the progress on my Bianca Jacket!
I took this picture Sunday morning. I was on track to finish this sweater in one week. But you see that little ball of yarn at the top? That’s all I had left, with ten rows left in the yoke and several rows of finishing to do.
That was NOT going to cut it. No matter how fast I knit, I wasn’t going to outrun the end of the yarn. I needed to figure out whether or not I was going to go crazy trying to find more of this yarn to finish the thing and I first had to determine (a) if I liked it on me and (b) if it even fit. I safety pinned the side and arm seams and tried it on.
It’s too big.
I knit the large size because there’s an EIGHT INCH DIFFERENCE between the medium size (38″ bust) and the large (46.5″ bust) and I figured – it’s a jacket, it needs to be loose, right? Well. This thing takes positive ease to another level. AND it’s Rowan Summer Tweed, which I’ve been told grows like a mofo so it’s likely to get even BIGGER. No thanks, I’ve never looked good in red potato sacks.
I haven’t ripped it yet because the kitty was sleeping on it, but it will return to its non-knitted natural state soon. Damnit.
I will probably reknit it in the medium size, as soon as I can face the yarn again. It should go even faster this time, right? The medium will likely be too small, but I am on a mission to lose weight and having this hanging in my closet will be good incentive. Or a huge waste of time.
It’s during times like these that I just want to give up. At least with making garments. It’s so frustrating. Do you ever feel like that when a project goes awry? Like, what the hell am I doing this for, anyway? Ugh.
On a more positive note, here’s a keyhole scarf I made for my mom for Christmas:
I think it turned out nicely and I love the happyhappy garter stitch!
Mmmmmm…handspun!

If you knit the medium size with a yarn that is going to grow like a mofo, then I would think it will fit you regardless. But damn! I feel your pain.

How close is the medium to your natural size? Could you add a little ease if you needed it and count on the yarn to grow? Maybe before you rip you should hang that sucker in the closet and measure it again after a couple of days to see how much growth you can reasonably count on.

Oh, my gosh, I’m so sorry! I think I would cry. At least it made the cat happy. :-)

I would be sobbing … I bet the medium would fit. UGH!

Yes. I do agree. Put it to the side until it calls you back. The frog pond is nothing to be ashamed of-you NEED time away from painful experiences like these. On a happier note, you somehow made aqua and red into a delicious handspun. How is that even possible?

I’m not a ripper. It would have to sit a few months first.

I wouldn’t be able to look at it for a while……….at least, not until I was over the loss. It’s beautiful even though!

I saw jamibee’s brown Summer Tweed version of this sweater in person this weekend at market. It’s really, really nice. I think you’ll like the finished product second time ’round.

Sorry about the red sweater/potato sack. It will work. But what lovely coloring in your handspun. Yum! And great use of it.

Go ahead, cuss like Cartman. It’s good for the soul. I always give the frog projects (and there’s enough of them) to Michael. He likes to rip them out, and that way I don’t have to see my hard work end so quickly and violently. Love the scarf!!!

I completely understand. Go ahead and cuss. I’ll be right there with you. Same thing this week with me, just a different pattern. I ripped it and went back to my sock project. I’ll try again when my blood pressure goes down. LOL That scarf is definitely yummy!

Sorry about Bianca being a bitch! Love-love-love your keyhoe scarf!!! I love garter stitch in handspun.

The Keyhole scarf is beautiful and especially with your handspun.
So sorry Bianca is being so difficult!

Umm YEAH! I really do feel that way!
That is a shame – an unbelievable shame. I hope the medium does knit up faster. Sheesh.
Cartman is my favourite btw. :-)

Oh my, you know I’ve never made a sweater but want to do so because I found a great pattern. I think I will rethink this now. It does look beautiful no matter what size it it. I love the scarf. The colors are so cool.
