Out with the old, in with the new!

You might remember that I cast on for Chamomile last June. It never got any farther than the front. It just lay in a felted bag, all but forgotten, hanging out on its stitch holder.
Then I saw the gallery for Bianca’s Jacket on Ravelry. I have to admit, I was not impressed with this jacket from the Interweave photos. I mean, bland, bland, bland – right? Then I saw it on Ravelry and although lots of people knit it in the same bland beige color (hey, if you like beige, that’s fine with me, but *I* find it blechy), others knit it with gorgeous chocolate brown and several knit it in Rowan Summer Tweed. Which just so happens to be the yarn I was using for Chamomile.
This is the lace portion of Sleeve No. 2. Which means I’ve already knit the back, both fronts and Sleeve No. 1. I started this on Monday. That’s some fast knitting, if I say so myself!
I’m a bit concerned about yardage, however. (Is it possible for me to make something without some sort of drama? I wonder.) I’ve emailed a Ravelry member and asked if the yoke can be knit with two skeins because that’s what I estimate I’ll have left when the second sleeve is knit. She knit a larger size with nine skeins, which is what I have, so I’m pretty sure it can be done, but I may have to shorten the sleeves to 3/4 length. We shall see.
I’ve also been spinning.
This is what I started on Distaff Day, 4 oz. of “Alabaster” from Miss Funky herself! I love spinning superwash, it’s soooo smooth and easy. That’s almost 200 yards of worsted weight wool, and it’s really really soft. I like the subtle colorway – thanks Carrie!
And last night, after my terrific come-from-behind Canasta victory, I couldn’t resist starting on this:
As SB said this morning, after he finally finished crying over his horrific loss in cards, “that’s really RED!” This is from a wonderfully prepared batt by The Redhead. She viciously posted pictures of these batts coming off her new supercarder on Ravelry and I was weak. And I’m glad. This stuff spins like a dream, 80% merino, 20% silk, with a tiny bit of sparkle thrown in.
I’m going to really focus on finishing the Bianca Jacket this weekend so I’ll have something new to wear next week! Have a great weekend!

I love playing cards! Congratulations on your win – that has to feel good. :-)
I love your spun wool – gorgeous. The red too.
That is the great thing about Ravelry – you can find inspiration (and temptation!) everywhere.
Love your vintage coats too – nice finds.

I never really thought about that jacket before, but yours is so cute! It does seem like a great project for Summer Tweed, too. I hope you have enough yarn!

I’m so glad that you enjoyed the fiber! I have an entire sweaters worth of that colorway. ;) The knitting looks amazing too. I love that red! Yum.

I need to get you to teach me how to ply that evenly. I think I’m doing something wrong, but I’m not sure.

I just bought the last of Funky Carolina from Pick Up STicks. I only hope it will spin up a little bit like yours. Bianca looks fab.

I am drooling over the handspun. I’m thinking it wouldn’t be horrible if something similar jumped into my Christmas shipment…hmmm?

I’m glad you are enjoying the batts :) I’m looking forward to seeing pics of the finished yarn.
