how fortuitous!

I pulled into the parking deck this morning and noticed something lying on the ground beside the car on my right. ‘Oh, someone’s lost a glove!’ I thought. ‘I’ll pick it up and put it on their windshield so they see it when they get in their car.’
That’s MY glove. One of my Fetching mitts, to be exact. I try to park in the same area each day and I was really surprised that this spot was still open because I was running late this morning (just like every morning). I think this was some kind of small karmic payback (for what, I don’t know, but I’m not one to question) and for that, I say thank you, Cosmos!
Earlier this week I started having fantasies of knitting gifts for every person on my list – before Christmas. These thoughts began after driving out to the Summit on my lunch break to buy a homebrew kit for my youngest associate, only to be told that Alabama doesn’t allow the sale of such kits. grumblegrumblefreakinAlabamastupidlawsruiningagirl’sfunnottomentionherlunchbreak There goes that idea. Of course, the knitter in me started thinking about what I could possibly whip out before Friday. Can I make three handknit gifts for my three attorneys in such a short period of time? I’m fully aware that my sanity will be non-existent. It’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make.
GIFT NUMBER ONE
This is for my Big Boss, J. I’ve worked with J for 13 years and the man has everything he could possibly want. Or BUY. But he can’t buy this:
A cashmere version of Jared’s Scholar Collar, except with different yarn and a different stitch pattern. This was going to be a scarf, but since time was short and I already had 18″ knit, I added several more inches and a couple of button holes and now all that’s left is to find two very classy buttons. Which is a bigger task than one might think in this city.
GIFT NUMBER TWO
I’m 90% finished with one Maine Morning Mitt for my female associate:
Just the thumb and another mitt to go! If the thumbs turn out well, I’ll gift them. If not, wine makes a lovely gift. Who doesn’t love wine?
And the young ‘un associate? I’m thinking a hat. That I already have made, just have to weave in the ends. I knit it for myself and then SB claimed it but wanted a lining so it’s been in my hold basket for months. SB understands my frenzy and I’ll knit him another one after the holidays.
I think I can do it. Really….I do….

With the exception of finding a button, very doable, I think.

Seems doable to me, too. Buttons, one mitt, and weaving in a few ends? You can do it!
I did that with a glove once, years ago – rode past it in the street, on my bike, for a month, before I realized it was mine, and by that time it was too damaged to save. (In my defense, it was a plain brown glove and I’d been wearing my green ones that whole time.)

Hey, you are lucky…for finding the mitt you didn’t know you’d lost and for having most of the Christmas knitting done! Now relax and enjoy the Season, friend.

Ha, I am trying to figure a way to keep knitting these gift socks and read blogs, and cook, and wrap, and… this is craziness! Good luck on the triumvirate.

You’re freakin’ awesome. I really love the first one, am equally as impressed with the second, and I can’t see the third, but I can’t wait! Pics, please~!

The thing that I find the most amusing is that Alabama will prohibit the sale of something, but not owning or using it. And if you can’t sell it, does that mean you can’t purchase it? What about the internet – if you buy it from someone not in Alabama and have it shipped is that OK? It’s like no one thought this stuff through.
