Seam me up, Scotty!

Yes, I hear the collective groan from here!

Here’s an exciting shot of my sweater deep in the seaming process.

Why didn’t anyone tell me that seaming was so much work?  Good lard it’s taking me almost as long to seam this thing as it did to knit it!  Okay, not really, but still.  I’m about three hours in and have another hour of seaming before I can weave in the ends and call her finished.  Tonight!  I will finish it tonight!

In the meantime, covet my pretties:

Isn’t that beautiful?  Aija found these at a bead expo and turned them into stitch markers, but I think mine will become a necklace.  It’s made from a real leaf!  Aija also included two of her famous zero stitch markers, and some samples and coupons from other Etsy sellers.   It’s always nice to open up a package and find something extra – thank you Aija!

I also got some souvenir yarn while I was in Indiana.

Claudia’s Handpaint in Lemon Ice.  I’m really getting into handpainted sock yarns.  I used to balk at the price tag, but after trying it myself, I find it easier to just throw my money at the experts.  More satisfying, too.

Speaking of throwing money, I’ve joined the Stash Knit Down 2008 Ravelry group.  I’m not swearing off new purchases but I intend to make a concerted effort in knitting from the stash next year.  I have lots of good yarn that want their day in the sun and I’m going to give it to them!  I even have big plans for what to do with all this handspun I’ve been making and hoarding.

First I have to finish the sweater, finish Stripey-Tweedy, and knit a couple of xmas gift scarves (Shut up, Carrie.  I know I said I wasn’t doing any gift knitting, but I LIED.  The pressure got to me.  My daughter needs a scarf!  My mom needs a scarf!  I can’t let their little necks go cold, can I?).

But what I really want to do is spin.  *sigh*

Aw, I thought it was funny!
Years and years ago, I met a woman who had gold lettuce earrings. They were some sort of ruffly edged lettuce that was cast somehow and redone in gold. I LOVED them.

You’re doing better than me! I’ve just been going into the dining room periodically to see if my sweater has seamed itself up yet.

Are we still on for Saturday morning dyeing? You could get some spinning in then, right?

The thing with seaming is that you just want to be DONE by the time you’re at that point. And I think that makes it feel like seaming takes even longer than it really does. Persevere!

I’m tempted to join the Stash Knit Down becuase I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed by one bin of sock yarn and about 5-6 sweaters worth of yarn. But then, I read the person who started it has 16 bins! Eeek…I’m an amateur ;-)
Claudia’s handpaint is such great yarn! You’re going to love it.

oh, btw, i forgot to tell you, seaming sucks. kind of. but then sometimes i get really into it and like it! it’s all part of the process. surely you’re learning something, or cultivating some kind of special crafty patience that will translate into real life somehow.

I love those leaf stitch markers. They are so pretty and yes it would make a wonderful necklace.

I so hate seaming and weaving in ends. I think I shlould be able to wear the item once the knitting is finished. LOL

Here’s my brief brush with greatness…. James Doohan kissed my cheek. Yes, he was toasted at the time and trying to pinch all the girls’ butts (I managed to avoid that bit), but still – I met the actual Scotty. ;) (and ironically, that’s the second time this week I’ve told that story – I go for years without mentioning it and here I am blabbering about it almost constantly all of a sudden)

Spin first, center yourself, and then knit like the wind. (Sounds good in theory doesn’t it? If you’re like me once you start spinning you can’t stop.)

And as far as the seaming goes? I’ve only seamed one sweater, and it took me a couple of days. I wasn’t brave enough to count how many hours I put into it.

I’m thinking I need to start a Spin from Your Stash group. I keep finding fiber/batts/roving I can’t bear to let go
home with someone else so my unspun stash keeps growing and growing. Afterwards, of course, I’ll have to join the Knit from Your Stash group to use up my handspun. :-)
