comfort knitting

When I was home sick last week, I didn’t knit for several days. When I picked back up the needles, I wanted something easy that wouldn’t require thought or math or even purling. So I knit a garter stitch scarf out of the yarn I had just spun. I didn’t even set the twist. You’re allowed to break rules when you’re sick. You can also eat all the ice cream you want.
I knit it on US 13s, lengthwise. I worried that it wouldn’t be long enough to do “the loop” but it’s plenty long, taller than me actually.
Now you all know I have a double chin. Oh well. There are worse things in life.
The tussah silk Abby dyed MAKES this scarf, imo. And it’s finally cold enough to wear it!
I also knit this. That bag is not impressive. Minerva Turkey’s bag IS. Shannon took a *yawn* pattern and turned it into a really fabulous bag. Check it out.
Unfortunately, I had to frog it all on Monday. I was trying to do math while feverish and since I didn’t want a bag quite as large as Shannon’s, I decided to cast on fewer stitches. I’d almost finished it (all the above yarn was knit) when I realized that I should’ve made the stripes narrower, rather than cutting the length and after felting, the current length I had would result in a 6″ tall, 15″ wide purse. And that’s just not the look I was going for.
I WILL reknit this, maybe at SAFF, but it will be my secondary project because I have finished the second sleeve on my Stripey-Tweedy sweater and now all the stitches are on one needle! That will be my primary project this weekend. I hope I can find some cool handmade buttons to accent the cuffs and neckline.
I also sewed in the zipper on my SAFF sweater! It took an hour and a half (sewing by hand) and it looks pretty good! I’d have pictures, but it was raining last night and I really can’t complain about that. But at least – it is DONE – and I won’t have to wear ickrylic or be otherwise punished for not meeting the challenge! Hurrah!

Gosh it seems everyone is getting sick lately. Glad to hear you’re feeling better. And yes, you can do whatever you want when you’re sick, especially have lots of ice cream. :)
