SAFF Rules
Posted on | October 24, 2007 | 14 Comments
After my shameful behavior last year, I decided to make a list of rules for myself for SAFF.
1. I will not leave my friends standing in my dust just to seek out an elusive fiber vendor.
2. I will focus on the conversation at hand, be it with friend, blogger (new friend) or vendor, and not divert my eyes and attention to the pretty fiber surroundings while pretending to listen to what they’re saying.
3. I will repeat to myself this mantra: I will NOT die if I do not buy this fiber/spindle/yarn rightnowthisveryinstant. I might need this on a loop tape.
4. I will embrace the Meant-to-Be attitude. If purchasing the object of my desire will force me to eat Ramen noodles for the next month, I will make at least one round of the festival grounds before making said purchase. If it’s still there, it’s Meant-to-Be. If it’s not, it never was.
5. I will not proudly proclaim, “I made this!”to anyone there. They are knitters and spinners and weavers - much more talented than I – and it’ll be obvious to them that “this” is handmade. I am just one little fish in the sea of handmade.
6. I will try not to make a fool of myself.
Not even for this guy.

I’ve decided to forgo rules so I can’t be a disappointment to myself for not managing to follow a single one of them. Other than the one about not bringing home any more animals. But that isn’t my rule, that’s B’s rule.

Ummmm, ya right.;-) It’s good to be discretionary but don’t go overboard with it!

Darlin’, there is no place else in the world (with the possible exception of another fiber fest) where the behaviors you’re trying to avoid would be excused as easily. Let yourself go. It’s a festival, you’re supposed to be a little bit wild. (Just don’t hurt anyone diving for fiber.)

I think we’re all guilty of #2.

Just for the record, I don’t like any of those rules. I vote that you toss ‘em. And kiss those fuzzy lips – is there any more adorable face out there? And there’ll be lots at SAFF – pucker up!

funny thing, i’m always able to control myself with the fiber/yarn/vendors at a fiber festival. i think i’m too overstimulated that i can’t focus and can’t decide what to buy.

I have a similar reaction at festivals to maryse. Sometimes it is overwhelming and I end up with nothing. But I always enjoy looking. Wha t is working in my favor this time is that I’ll be able to be there for more than one day.
I never thought about brining home an animal! My husband will be mortified just at the possibility. I’ll have to mention it tonight at dinner for fun!

I’ll back you up on this one. This is my first festival and I am taking it easy.

Well.
Those of us attending vicariously don’t have much to look forward to now, do we?

Just have a wonderful time!

Ummmm yeah, I won’t hold you to those rules. ;)

I would say the only rule you might want to keep is #6, Don’t make a fool of yourself, although really, that one is entirely optional, too. Have a great time!

Sounds like you might be taking all of the fun out of the festival for yourself. Don’t be too strict with yourself – they are all knitters, crocheters, weavers and spinners and they totally understand your *bad* behaviour!
