yarn and knitting and maracas

Did I mention that I won a contest last week?  No?  Well, I did!  And my spoils prize arrived Saturday!

Look at that cute giftcard!  Jennie, I’m totally going to copy you and create some of my own!  Also going to copy you on those super-cool kneehighs

Yum!  I knew the yarn was coming because I got to pick my prize (aren’t those fabulous colors?  I’ve been coveting Yarn Pirate for awhile, and now I have some!), but the Cadbury treats were a surprise!  I LOVE Cadberry – did you know that in London, the Tube vending machines stock Cadbury chocolate bars?  We should be so lucky!  Thank you, Jennie!!!

I may have eaten half of the Roast Almond bar Sunday while I was knitting.

Yep.  The sleeves are finished and I’m onto the yoke!  I’ve actually done a LOT more than this.  In fact, I’m one repeat away from the collar, but I’m having a fit of uncertainty and am going to put the stitches on scrap yarn tonight and try the thing on before going any further.  The yoke looks so SMALL in comparison to the rest of the sweater and it’s not because the colorwork is pulling my stitches in – I was careful to make properly long floats between color changes – I really don’t know what’s going on.  I may have begun the first decrease round too soon and made it too extreme, so the whole yoke might get ripped back tonight (collective moan).  I’ve put enough work into this sweater that I want it to fit and look right and I’m willing to do what it takes to make it that way.  Also, I’ve thought of some things I’ll do differently if I have to knit it again.  So, it’s all good!

Does anyone know if I should go up a needle size while knitting the yoke?  I think I read that somewhere, but maybe I dreamt it.

Imagine this – me sitting on the couch in shorts and a tshirt, hair in a ponytail, A/C on full blast and a fan trained directly on me – this is how I endured having a lap full of wool in 90 degree heat and 74% humidity this weekend.

Will fall EVER get here??????  I’m beginning to have my doubts.  I’m ready to go camping! I’m ready to build a campfire!  I’m ready to WEAR some of this wool I have laying about!

In the meantime, I’ll ponder this:

Can eggplants substitute for maracas?

When I took a fair isle class last year, we went up a needle size for the colorwork section of the bag from the size of needle we used for the rest of the bag.

LOL – great last pic :)

I don’t have any words of wisdom for your yoke – but lots of encouragement, it looks GREAT!

It was in the 90s here this weekend too – what in the world!! I’m not a winter person, but I’m all for a little bit of fall chill right now!

The Norwegians traditionally go up one needle size for the stranded yoke of ski sweaters. This is a round yoke sweater, right? I’d do it.

Obviously, his cheering helped Auburn in the second half. Beard-Eaves will be replete with eggplants for the Vandy game. Way to pull for your team, Sgt. Britty!

I have no advice on the yoke, unfortunately, but it’s looking good. I’m here for encouragement. You’re almost there! The fat lady sang on mine today. Whew!

Your sweater is very, very cool. I can’t wait to see the final product. I wish I could help on the needle size thing, but I barely know what a yoke is!

The yarn is lovely. Yay for winning the contest. I have just knit with what the pattern calls for.

You’ve still got time on the sweater – can’t wait to see it done though! Sending you COOL autumn thoughts….

Yes, definitely do what it takes to make that sweater just right. It will be so worth it in the end. (And really, isn’t the colorwork the fun part? It would be worse (to me) if I had to rip back acres of stockinette.)
I think you can easily find Cadbury in Canada too. My Canuck friend was lamenting the lack of said chocolate here, but I’d never heard of it outside of the goo-filled Easter eggs that are my shameful passion.
