bless my little heart

I’ve lost my cotton-pickin’ mind.

I  know it’s hard to see, but where it says Saturday Artist Workshops, from Noon -2, that’s me.  I’m going to be “Exploring Fiber Arts” – AS A DEMONSTRATOR – this Saturday for ArtWalk.  This is why I’ve been dyeing roving like a mad woman – I’m hoping to distract people’s attention with all the pretty colors (I’m not saying never on an Etsy store, but…not yet).  Plus my horoscope’s all out of whack – Saturn’s leaving Leo for Virgo, Mars is stirring up trouble with Uranus and apparently the sun and Jupiter aren’t getting along.  Is it any wonder I’m out of sorts????

I’m terrified, I have a stress headache already just from thinking about it, and I’m finding it hard to catch my breath.  Why?

because these people might find out that I don’t know what the heck I’m doing!!!

The only people I’ve spun in front of EVER were other spinners.  And they cut me a lot of slack, cause that’s how they are.

Someone pass the smelling salts, please.  And maybe a pitcher of margaritas.  If I can get a good drunk on, maybe the jeers of the crowd won’t sting as badly.

Nononononono!!! You will WOW them! The Muggles will think you are working magic! You’ll be great!

Save the margaritas for afterward; you’ll enjoy them more.

Oh that’s so exciting!! I’m sure I would be nervous too, but you do so totally know what you’re doing, and even better, the people watching you won’t – so they will be doubly impressed. Take big deep breaths and drinkies if necessary and show us lots of pictures when you are done!! I can’t wait to see what you’ve dyed :)

I’ll do what I can to swing by and lend some moral support. We’ll have the boy, but I think it’ll be doable. If not, I’ll come down by myself.

You’ll be great – that’s why I called you! And you’ll have me as your personal barker to lure in the masses. No margaritas but we do have a beer tent on our corner.

Elizabeth you’ll be just fine. If you can spin in front of a room full of spinners, you’ve won half the battle. The muggles won’t know what you’re doing, and will be mesmerized by the wheel going round and round. They’ll declare it magic, I promise!

Spinners are the ones you have to wow. I’ve done a few demos and mostly people just think you’re off your nut for even wanting to do something like spin yarn. Don’t worry, they’ll be impressed at the freakshow of your ‘old timey’ hobby. Watch out for the pre-pubescent boys, they’re the ones that are actually interested in the mechanics and will ask the questions. Congratulations! It’s so awesome, you’re gonna be a pro soon!

OMG! I’m so proud of you!!! I wish I could be there with you…I’d be a stooge in the crowd & applaud at everything you say. Don’t worry so much about it – I’m sure you’ll do GREAT. I wish I could tell you what I did to get through spraying my first client…That whole, “pretend they’re naked” thing doesn’t work when they really are.

Just remember, you know WAY more than any lay person walking by, or anyone who signs up for your workshop.

    I love my sis~

You will do great! The muggles will just be mezmarized by the spinning of the wheel. You will wow them with your spinning. If you make a mistake just call it art yarn. ;)

I’ve done a lot of demos in my day, and lemme tell you, just the fact that you’re SPINNING is amazing to most people. In my experience, the most frequently asked question is: what do you do if it (the yarn) breaks/what do you do when you run out of the fiber in your hand? Have a snappy answer* to that, and you’ll impress the heck out of them.

*What I do in response to the break question: pull the yarn apart, cry “oh no!”, calmly rejoin and continue spinning without missing a treadle beat. Never fails to get a “Oh wow!” comment. :)

The nice thing about spinning in front of muggles is that they have no idea whether you’re doing it “right” or not. The spinners and fiber-types will think it’s cool that you’re doing it at all, so you should have plenty of good experiences. YAY!

You will be fabulous! Your yarn is glorious, watching you make it would be fascinating! Muggles have no idea that people actually DO this; there is no way they would know if you are doing it *right*. Knock ‘em dead!
