the bad with the good

Some dumbass ran into my car Wednesday night (no one was hurt, thankfully).  The boy and I were on our way home and the woman in the car in front of us decided – all of a sudden – to do a u-turn!  She veered to the right then veered immediately to the left.  I slammed on the brakes, laid on the horn and veered left to avoid her and she still hit us.  She didn’t even try to stop.  I think she might’ve been drunk, as she never got out of her car, not even when the police arrived.  Not to look at the damage to her car (front bumper was almost torn off), not to check on us, nothing.  Very suspicious.

Ahhhhh….cashmere.  That makes me feel better, doesn’t it you?

Unfortunately, there’s more bad.

CIMG4027-1.JPG

These are some socks I was knitting for my husband.  They were supposed to be a birthday present last October and I did manage to have 1.5 done, but then they languished and I recently picked them back up (since this October isn’t far away) to wow you guys with a FO (and finally give him his present).  The bad part is that I started these socks before I learned the proper way to knit, so the difference in gauge once I started knitting them again was enormous.  These will be sent to the back of the closet while I regroup.

This will help me regroup.  Pretty, no?  SB likes it too, it’s the Baltic Sea colorway, Lorna’s Laces.

But the worst news of all – The Pinhoti Trail (our hiking trail of choice) is closed immediately through September 30 due to a wildfire in the wilderness area.  More than 400 acres have burned so far.  I’m just sick about it.

Instead of showing you the picture I’d planned to post for Eye Candy Friday, I’m giving you a picture of the trail, as I like to think of it.

If you know how to do a raindance, please come visit.

Edited to add:  This post is kind of a downer, so I’m throwing this in.

Eep! That really sucks about your car, but I’m so glad you guys are ok! And there really is nothing like yarn to soothe the damaged soul. LOVE the Lorna’s Laces.

    Oh no! (the car)
    Oh no! (the socks)
    Oh no! (the trail)

Maybe you should get a little more cashmere…

Goodness! So much as happened to everyone in the knit/blog world. I keep wondering when disaster will strike next. I’m glad to see that you are handling it well. Just remember SAFF is just around the corner!

The socks can be re-knit, the forest will grow back (as sad as the fire is!!)….most important is it was just a fender bender and everyone is o.k. (Despite the inconsiderate jerk that wouldn’t even get out of her car and check to see ya’ll weren’t hurt)!!!!

I know some days it just seems like everything is bad!!! I’m sorry, hopefully the weekend will be better!!!!

    LMAO @ the comic!
Bummer about the car and the trail. Both fixable, though – people tend to think of wildfires as destruction, but in a few years all that good ash and burnt stuff will work into the soil and the trail will be even more beautiful! That whole circle of life thing sucks during the destruction part, but the reconstruction is always worth it, IMO.
Too bad about the socks, though – although, now that you know the “proper” way to knit, if there is such a thing, I bet you could redo the pair and they’d zip right along!

It’s all Pluto’s fault. Damned retrograde planets. They always screw things up. Here’s a quote on Pluto – “Pluto’s retrograde is also a time of destruction and rebuilding, rejuvenation and regeneration” – guess that explains your car, the Pinhoti, and my air conditioning.

That sucks about the wreck. I am glad that you all were ok. Yeah I would say that there was something wrong with that woman for sure.

Could you knit the socks the “wrong” way. As long as they are knit all the same who cares if they are twisted
stitches. If you like the fabric that they make then I say go for it.

Sending all the rain mojo that I can your way. Please do the same for us if you would.

Hope that things look up soon.

Ack! (the car!) Glad you are all ok. Did the police do a breathalizer for the other driver. I know it’s hard to think in that situation, and I wish I’d asked them to do so in an accident I was in years ago. You can also ask for a copy of the police report to help out with the insurance…though if you’re in small town usa, the report may not exactly be what happened (in my case, officer asks other driver if she was wearing a seatbelt-no, but report says unknown). The socks-It looks like maybe you were knitting through all the back loops…I did that in my first project. The stitches look twisted, just like the sweater. The might be salvaged! The fires-scary, hope they go out soon.

Thank goodness for all the pretty yarn during the times when everything else seems to suck, right? I think I’ll go pet some of mine…
I’m sorry about your car (and the forest, and the sock!).

That comic strip completely describes our weather! I wonder if the little bit of rain we got today helped the wildfire? Or did it completely skip that area? *sigh*

Sorry about your car but I’m really glad you guys are OK!

I wish I knew a raindance. It’s making our trails & mountians here very unhappy as well!

Yikes…I’m glad no one was hurt.

Major bummer about the trail. We’ve had a lot of drought here in MN too, and it’s really hard.
Hey, don’t worry about being a downer…we all have bad days, and you’ve got a big audience of shoulders to cry on!
