Practice sleeves?

I like them fine, except apparently I can’t do math. They’re a little big.
I can’t decide whether to leave them as-is, since if I do steek this sweater, I’ll wear it as a cardigan/jacket with a shirt underneath, or rip back and start over with fewer stitches.
This is an argument in favor of ripping back. My color joins leave a lot to be desired and just look sloppy. Of course, I could hide them on the inside of the sleeve, but I’d know they were there. What it comes down to is: How much do I care? Yeah, I don’t know.
I only have about two inches more on the body of my sweater before it’s ready for the yoke. I thought I was done with it, but I tried it on again this morning and want to add a couple more inches as insurance against the belly ride.
While indecision stalls the progress of my sweater, I’ve been spinning a little.
This is some fiber I picked up from my guild friend Mary last Saturday. She was a vendor at the Deep South Alpaca Connection workshop and Blogfree Ginny and I stopped by to get fiber and borrow handcards from another guild friend AND TO MEET DARLENE!!!!!!!! I was so happy to finally meet her, after exchanging comments and e-mails all this time! What a sweetie; I can’t wait to hang out with her again! I had an ulterior motive in asking to meet her surrounded by fiber, wheels, and guild folk - that girl needs to get her wheel put together!!!! I think she’s worked on it a little since Saturday, so maybe my plan worked…
I was happy to get home last night and find that my long-lost book order from Interweave’s hurt book sale had arrived!
Just in time to play with the plain roving I also got on Saturday. I’m not going to get too caught up in the spinning and dyeing though, I do have a challenge to meet!

Your ulteriour motive worked!! Hee! Hee! I am finished with the polycoat, all is dried and currently in the process of bribing my DH to put together for me tonight!!!
I was so tickled to meet you and Ginny Saturday!!! Can’t wait till we can get together again not to mention all the fun of SAFF!!
I love the sweater (and jealous!) As bad as I hate to vote for ripping back…I’m like you in that it would bug me knowing I had a mistake….but I LOVE the color combination and it is going to make a great cardigan!!!
I can’t wait to get started spinning….the roving looks GREAT spun into yarn!!!!

I wouldn’t restart the sleeves. But that’s just me.

Well as you said it depends on how you really feel about the sleeves.
Ooo love the colors of your spinning. Great job, it is so pretty.
Yay for the books finally arriving. And roving to boot.

I’m so envious of your new books – you’re going to have a lot of fun with those! The site was sooo slow when I tried to order that I finally just gave up.
I also think the sleeves look fine!

I am guilty of the double standard. While I think the sleeves are just fine and no one would notice from a trotting horse, if I had knit it I would constantly berate myself for the imperfection and feel guilty accepting compliments on my work. But that’s my neurosis, not yours!

I think the sleeves look fine, hard to see they are too big. You do know you are the only person who will notice the color joins? I always have to remember, extra inches…avoid the belly ride!

If you have time on Sunday, c’mon up to Huntsville and have Lynne Vogel sign your Twisted Sisters book. She’s going to be here from 1-4, signing both of her books and selling a little bit of hand dyed yarn and fiber.

I wouldn’t rip it. I personally like sweaters to fit a little big, and since I crochet, I’m used to the stitches lining up like that. I think it’s more than fine!

If it were me, I would fixate on the sleeves and drive myself batty.

Rip it! Oh wait…that was my competitive side speaking. I still can’t decide on colors, so I’m falling further and further behind. I’m doing it on purpose, of course, just to build up the excitement, get everyone thinking I’ll never make it and then execute this amazing come-from-behind victory. Right. The problem is, since it represents not just the knitting time, but also the spinning time and all the hours spent cleaning up after I dye so I need to be happy with the end result. Happy with the end result and I are only passing acquaintances. Today, though. I’m going to dye the sleeve yarn today. My decision on that is made, now I’m going to have to pick a color at random.

I have the bottom two books, Scarf Style and Colorworks. Mmmmm. Re: sleeves. I would procrestinate and add the couple inches to the body and then maybe pick up some other yarn and knit a couple scarves while I thought about it. Then I would run out of time and have to live with the color changes, but I’d end up satisfied. YMMV :)

I’m with kmkat- ‘cept I’d sit and read all the books I got in the mail-study them! And then feel the burning need to vist every site on the internet and leave very detailed comments on each one. Works for me every time.

I’d rip them. You like to knit, right, so hooray, you get to do it a little more! I like my sweaters a little on the loose side so I’d probably leave the stitch count alone if you’re planning to wear it over other stuff, and just rip back to fix the color thing. (Techknitter has some jogless join techniques on her blog that are incredible.)
I LOVE the color of that stuff you just spun up! That’s one of my favorite color combos. It makes me feel happy just to look at it.
