It took four days

but I finally caught up with my blog reading! I’m going to enjoy this sense of accomplishment for a little while before I check Bloglines this morning.
Yesterday, I went to my guild’s Spin Study. The shepherdess I wrote about last month that I was supposed to buy a fleece from had called me Tuesday and apologized for not holding a fleece back for me, like I thought we’d agreed on. She was very sweet and offered to bring some of her wool she’d had processed the year before to Spin Study, and since I’ll need more to make a sweater, I was happy to take some off her hands. The three ply natural brown wool I’d spun previously took dye really well and I think I’ll be able to dye all the wool a consistent color. Here’s what the brown wool looked like after I dyed it with 1/2 tsp. of Lanaset blue:
It’s a nice denimy, steely blue. These are both three ply yarns – the top one was two plies of brown wool with quite a bit of gray in it, and one ply of darker brown; the bottom skein is one ply lt. brown, one ply dk. brown, and one ply gray. I had to dye the bottom skein twice to get the same depth of color on the darker plies. The rest of the skeins I make will be all brown, overdyed with blue, and I’ll probably use the bottom skein for a contrasting edging or stripe. This is going to be a very long-term project, I can tell!
Wow, I hadn’t even planned to blog about that today. I planned to show you June’s Fiber of the Month from the Hello Yarn Fiber Club, that I just finished plying last night:
Adrian is just a dye goddess, I tell you. Well, her and Lynn and Abby. They’re my heroes. Adrian warned us to predraft this supersoft merino, and I guess I didn’t predraft the first bobbin enough because I had a lot of thick and thin areas. I was better with the second bobbin and it spun like a dream! Here’s a picture that shows it in is wild state:
Crazy, huh? I need to give the spinning a rest for awhile and set the twist in all the yarn I’ve made lately!
Um, yeah. Just a few.

Howdy! I posted on wendy knits about toe up socks and just thought I’d swing by and reinforce the idea of negative ease. You can usually knit your sock up to an inch shorter than you think it needs to be and count on the stretch of the yarn to make the sock fit. Of course, it all depends on what stitch and what yarn you are using. Good Luck!

Sooooo pretty. I can’t decide which I like best, but it’s probably the bluesy one and the orangey-brown looking one. You’d better count your stash before I visit in August and count it again before I leave!

I’m catching up too ;)
So glad that the lady from the guild decided to make nice (as it should be!) – and your spinning just looks awesome!! I LOVE those color combos, and I think your thick & thin looks great – it looks thoroughly intentional. I’d love to join a fiber club – what fun :)
