post-vacation post

I’m struggling with real world re-entry so I’ll let my pictures do the talking.
Deer at the beach. Never thought I’d see that!
We were the last house before the St. Joseph Peninsula State Park and these posts marked the park boundary. One evening, emboldened by rum punch, we harrassed beach walkers by making illegal entry buzzer noises as they crossed the boundary. Terribly childish. But fun.
approaching storm
hunting for sand crabs – they were everywhere! funny little creatures.
we had some pretty sunsets
I did a little bit of knitting and a lot of reading. I highly recommend Water for Elephants; in fact, three of us read it while there! Sara Gruen is descriptive and thorough and it was a quick and enjoyable read. White Teeth I have mixed feelings about. I loved the characters but feel like the story lost focus by jumping between so many characters. Zadie Smith is a very good writer and while some might balk at the many side trips she takes from the plot line, I actually enjoyed it (probably because I’m the same way). I felt like she copped out on the ending, though. The way she tied everything together in the last paragraph was unsatisfactory and a bit sloppy - for me, anyway. I did love getting back into reading, though. So much so that I went to B&N yesterday and got The Kite Runner!
Now to catch up on my Bloglines and see what everyone’s been up to…. I really missed my blogfriends and found myself thinking about you guys a lot!

Beautiful pictures! Sounds like you had a lovely time. Isn’t it amazing how much we miss blogging when we’re away? Nice to have you back.

Glad you’re back – you were missed! I kept checking your blog to see if you’d posted from the beach. So where are the pictures of the half-dead tomato plants you foolishly left in my care? ;-)

That storm picture is especially amazing – the colors! It’s beautiful and a little creepy at the same time. I have Water for Elephants sitting on my bookshelf, waiting – I think it will be my vacation reading, too!

Nice pics. I grew up in Tallahassee and LOVE st. joseph’s. Wish the rest of the panhandle hadn’t gotten so built up. :-(
Sounds like you had a great time.

I was at that same spot on the beach a couple of weeks ago!!! We have pics somewhere of the teen boys sitting on those rails. I know exactly which house you stayed in. There is a house a little way from there going away from the park that is my all time favorite “dream beach house”… i’ll have to find the pic and send it to you. Don’t you just love the area?! Did you eat at the Raw Bar? We go fishing with Capt Joey on his St. Vincent Island shuttle boat at Indian Pass. It’s a good 2 to 2 1/2 hour fishing trip, not far out in the ocean and always catch plenty to eat and bring back a little for the freezer.
