Meet my sistah, da hooka

My sister Jennifer is on the left. She’s going to kill me for posting this picture but I bet she still makes the same face, it just doesn’t get caught on camera.
Here we are riding a giraffe at Santa Claus Land in Santa Claus, Indiana. It was a little bright that day. Note the matching haircuts and outfits. Our mom sewed most of our clothes and she probably saved a lot of money by using the same pattern. I don’t think we minded.
One of our favorite games to play was Carpet Sharks. We’d outfit an old chair with lots of pillows and blankets and it became our ship in a sea of carpet sharks. We had to stay in the chair or the sharks would get us. The shoes must have been extra protection. I look pretty mean there, don’t I? I was probably about to push her overboard. It’s a wonder she still talks to me.
I always say this is me and my little brother. Poor sis. I have no idea why Mom dressed you like that while I’m all Little House on the Prairie.
See how she has this innate cuteness? I was always making faces and being goofy because she’s just so darn cute. Came out that way. Still is. Ugh. Just kidding, sis! Love you!
But that’s not reason enough to call my sistah a hooka. No, she’s a hooka in the cro-shay kinda way and she just started her own craft blog!!! Woo hoo!!! At the risk of losing all my readers (because she’s witty and funny as well as cute), go check out her site!
She’s about to seam a granny square afghan! Go sis! She’s a really incredible crafter. She does projects around her house that I wouldn’t even attempt. She made an amazing faux tree on her sun porch that is truly a work of art. She’s very good at just about everything she tries. She should have been blogging long ago, but I’m glad she is now!
Ah. That was fun. Thanks for indulging me on my little memory lane trip.
A couple of quick updates. Knitwise – I’m going to have to rip back the PB&J socks. Making the clocks in a contrasting color was a great idea design-wise but in reality it puckered the stitches while off the foot and pulled the stitches while on the foot so it’s gotta go. Not sure if I’m taking these to the beach or not.
How many projects should I take to the beach? I want enough that I have a choice and am not bored (because I doubt very much that there are any yarn shops anywhere near Cape San Blas, FL), but not so many that I’m scattered and don’t make progress on anything. Here’s what I’m thinking: a lace project, the second stripey sock, another pair (or two!) of socks and Chamomile. Or Rambling Rose. Is that enough? Too much? Decisions, decisions. This is MUCH harder than packing my clothes! I did come to the agonizing decision not to take my wheel. With two small kids and in-laws that already think I’m fiber addicted and probably a bit insane, it seemed like a bad idea.
And since you asked, my beach reads are White Teeth by Zadie Smith and Water for Elephants by Sarah Guer. I couldn’t find The Dud Avocado (written in the 40s, it’s an American in Paris coming of age novel, just the sort of thing I love!) or At Large and At Small. I’m probably going back tonight for one of the Khaled Hosseini books because a book that will make me cry (will it make me reach for the dictionary too?) cannot be resisted. I love a good vicarious sob.

OH! I want to know if Water for Elephants is a good read. Also, I have one of Khaled Hosseini’s books if you’d like to borrow it. I’ll bring it by if you’d like. Actually, you can keep it because I’m never going to read it.

Hmmm…Of course, this post was made on my busiest day of the week, so I am unable to retaliate quickly. Oh-Never fear sis, it WILL come. Pics of you on MY blog. Mmm-Hmm. You betcha.
Just kidding – I love you. And thanks for all your kind words. Don’t you know I’m just following your lead, like usual?

Oh yeah, and another thing. In that first picture, I look like Ned Beatty!

I guess cro-shay-ers need blogs too… Fun with the photos, my sister and I matched for years (my Mom likes to sew too, and I think she secretly wanted us to be twins).

Oh I love the pics – thanks for sharing them with us! You are both super cute. I love how many ‘together’ pictures you have – so precious.
Let us know how Water for Elephants is – I have been really curious about it.
