lost and found

Found my knitting mojo!  Friday night I cast on and Saturday evening, I had a sock!

I was so pleased with my quick progress that I immediately cast on for another!

Yes, yes, I know.  They don’t match.  It’s just…the first one went by so fast that I wanted to save the second sock for awhile.  And I’ve been dying to knit with this Shi Bui yarn, which has met and possibly exceeded my expectations.  The official name of this pattern is Stockings With Clocks, from Nancy Bush’s Folk Socks, but the mancub said they look like peanut butter and jelly socks, so that’s what they are.  Hopefully I’ll be able to keep the song out of my head!

The Shi Bui yarn is fabulous.  I’m probably appreciating it all the more coming straight from knitting the top sock with Regia, which is a fine yarn but lacks the spring and squish of Shi Bui.  So far I’m digging the pattern and will definitely incorporate the moss stitch ribbing on the cuff into future socks.  Here’s a close-up:

I’m knitting the pattern as written, even though it’s written for a man’s foot (!) and so far it fits (!!!).  I’ll have to shorten the length – that’s the only modification I anticipate making.  They’ll either look great or really suck.

Unfortunately, I seem to have lost my spinning mojo.  Or enough hours in the day to both knit and spin.  I pre-drafted half of the Hello Yarn June Fiber of the Month (BEAUTIFUL colors!) but can’t get excited about spinning it.  Or anything else.  Strange.

Oh!  I got my invite to Ravelry, so if you’re there, my name is “flwrhead.”  Come say hi!

And if anyone has any book recommendations for beach reading (next week!), I’m all ears!

I think knitting and spinning are exclusive. You can’t do them both at the same time, so nature makes it so that you want to spin up enough yarn that you can knit for a while, and then you get over the spinning and get excited about knitting again. It’s a balance thing.
And THANKSAHELLUVALOT for the dumb song, because it IS stuck in my head now.
For that, I will send you here: http://www.jonathancoulton.com/songdetails/Re%20Your%20Brains
    Enjoy.

Wow! I love that pattern and you are right – that is totally peanut butter and jelly. I’m going to have to try and get some of that yarn. It looks so nice!

Yay mojo! I think it’s easier to knit or spin instead of trying to do both in the same day if you’re trying to make leaps in progress. At least, it seems that way for me!

As for beach reads, I just got done listening to Trickster’s Choice and Trickster’s Queen by Tamora Pierce. They’re very entertaining reads.

Gorgeous socks! And that purple yarn is especially delicious.

You should definitely read “White Teeth” by Zadie Smith. Her books are perfect intelligent summer reading.

Here’s kind of a fun summer reading list:

You didn’t tell us what kind of pulp you like to read at the beach. Want some guilty pleasure or something you can brag about? And spinning mojo and knitting mojo cannot peacefully co-exist in the same brain/hands at the same time.

WOW….you certainly DID get your knitting MoJo back!!! Socks look Great!!!

I think the weather, the lack of rain seems to have most everyone I know having a hard time getting enthused about knitting!!!

I’m glad you found your knitting mojo again. Mine strays from time to time, too, but it eventually returns. I think having so many different hobbies, it gets a bit difficult to stay focused.

I second Emily’s White Teeth book suggestion. I read that last year and loved it. One I just finished the other day is A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini (also, if you haven’t read it yet, The Kite Runner by the same author is also fabulous). It may not be completely appropriate for beach reading, since there were parts of the book that had me in tears (actually, not just in tears but completely bawling), but I was so engrossed in the book that I stayed up until 2:30 a.m. to finish it, because I could not put it down. Another good one is The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield.

A sock in a day! Wow that is great. I am so impressed. I love the stripes.
At first when you mentioned the song in your head I thought it was Clocks by Cold Play – I guess that was just in my head. ;-)
I can’t stop with Ravelry! It is eating into my knitting and my (brand new) spinning time.
    See you over there.
