Seven things

Posted on | May 18, 2007 | 9 Comments

Stacey tagged me, so here are my seven things.

1.  Several years ago, I took belly dancing classes.  I said it was to augment my dating resume, but it was great exercise and I learned some killer dance moves.  I’m too shy to ever dance in front of anyone, though.

2.  Yarn and fiber are just the latest in a long line of obsessions.  Also on the list is gardening, Pampered Chef parties, a brief foray into scrapbooking, rock climbing, backpacking, wedding planning and house restoration.  What this means is that I go crazy studying every aspect of a lot of different things, but I stop short of becoming proficient at anything.  Next up?  Photography.  My wheels are already spinning.  must.buy.big.black.camera….

3.  I love to travel.  If I don’t get to travel, I feel weighed down.  I NEED that change of scenery.  I am a Sagittarius, through and through.

4.  I’ll never be a true Southerner – I prefer Cream of Wheat over grits.

5.  I can pretty much talk to anybody (and do).  Usually, that’s a good thing.  It’s amazing what people will tell a total stranger.

6.  My sister and I are psychically connected.  We dabble in the same crafts and we buy the same things – sometimes for each other!  That’s always nice, because don’t you usually buy things for people that you’d like to have yourself?

7.  I fell in love with California and out of love with the guy I was dating on the same trip.  Actually, on two trips with two different guys, both to San Fran and Northern California.  Thankfully, SB broke the “California Curse” because I’d really hate to avoid California!  Sometimes it just takes the right guy.

Whew!  That was harder than I thought!  Now to repay the “favor”…. I’ll tag:

Darlene (a homey I haven’t had the chance to meet yet but this girl rocks the stash enhancement.  I could learn a few things.)

Karrie (always a fun new craft going on over there – she has a tutorial on how to make your own critter eyes!)

Monika (check out her Sakura Cherry Blossom Shawl – gorgeous!)

Mel (she’s soon to be a published designer!!! Way to go, Mel!)

Abby (I want to be her fiber groupie.  No lie.  I can move to Ohio.  I’ll live in the studio.  I don’t eat much.  Really.  I’ll buy you wasabi-soy almonds…..)

Emily (I have a feeling she’s one of the sweetest people you’d ever meet and I hope to find out someday!)

Maryse (just because she doesn’t have enough crap to deal with this week, what with the tire and office co-habitation and the end of Gilmore Girls.  Sorry, Maryse.  You can hit me thank me later.)

You’re supposed to list your seven things and then tag seven people, but I say – do what you want.  List five things, three things, or none at all!  No pressure here.  Nosireebob.

And just for fun:

Monotropia uniflora, or “Ghost Pipe”

Isn’t this the weirdest thing ever?  It’s a plant that grows in the Smokies that I discovered quite by accident – I sat down to retie my boot laces and there it was.

I read your number 6 as “physically connected” which I thought was odd since you two don’t even live in the same state.

Ahhh so maybe you can play the finger cymbals too…funny how the belly dance dating scheme looked better in theory than it actually was…

I will never be a true southerner either. I prefer Cream of Wheat as well. Although, I am not sure Texas is considered a true southern state.??? Oh well. Nice getting to know you better!!!!

Thanks for the shout-out! I don’t know if I could come up with 7 more, the first eight were hard enough ;) I hear you on the string of hobbies – Jack of all trades, master of none! My spinning is suffering because I can’t pull away from the knitting, and I’m dying to take a courses in photography, dyeing, weaving, etc. etc. etc! There are too many fun things to do!

I’m going to do the meme, I swear! I’m just way behind! I’m getting a big kick out of it and out of being tagged. ;-)

Isn’t it funny what you see when you’re not looking? That’s a beautiful, funny-looking plant. We were backpacking in the smokies when a trail clearer volunteer brought us some freshly-dug ramps. He always goes to his secret spot every June and gets them. He did warn us about eating them raw though–they cause the trots he said. I was confused a bit, until I realized what the trots were. I miss the smokies–I haven’t been in years–6 to be precise. Son # 1 was born 5 years ago. As soon as son # 2 (almost 3) can carry his own sleeping bag, we’re off to the woods again! I popped over from Jacki’s Cider Moon blog and covet your stash. I don’t even spin (yet) and covet the fiber.

[...] The idea of this tag is to tell seven random things about yourself, and I have been tagged by both Arachne and Elizabeth. I havhttp://www.girlontherocks.com/knit/blog/wp-admin/post-new.phpe previously played along (partially) with the 6 weird things meme which you might be interested in if you are still reading. I usually don’t actually tag anyone with these, but we’ll see how I feel when I get to the end of it. [...]
