I’ll take three, please.

Meet Cricket, the May Fiber of the Month Club selection from Adrian at Hello Yarn!  My version of Cricket has a good bit more green than any others you may see because I threw in a bobbin of some Wensleydale that I’d dyed varying shades of green some time ago (at the time I thought it might be mohair but now I’m sure it’s Wensleydale).  It wasn’t intentional, I was looking for a second bobbin to spin the other half of Cricket and thought I’d wind off the little bit of Wensleydale to use that bobbin (because empty bobbins, much like sitting areas and bare flat surfaces, are fast becoming extinct in my house) and the colors went so well together that I threw it in to make a three ply.

I’m becoming more and more a fan of the three ply, except for one thing…it eats the yardage!  Wouldn’t you think that adding a few ounces of another fiber would INCREASE the yardage?  I would.  But in some weird, yardage-sucking way, it actually decreased the yardage.  Maybe because the single has to wrap around two other singles?  I don’t know.  But, whatever.  I love it, it’s sproingy and really soft and the Wensleydale adds a nice sheen to the BFL.  150 yards, 7.55 ounces, haven’t measured the WPI but it’s probably close to a heavy worsted.

I also finished some socks!  That you didn’t even know I was knitting!

Fast and easy, ohmygosh.  Cast on on the drive to go canoeing last Saturday, went a couple of days without knitting on them at all, and finished them last night.  44 stitches, size 3 needles, definitely some instant gratification!

I’ve been inspired by the lovely modeled shots over at Sock Pr0n and thought I’d give it a try this morning.  I figured out how to work the self timer and…

Oops!  One sock’s slouching.

Someone’s  a camera hog!

I think I’ll leave the self timer portraits to the professionals.

Much better.  There’s nothing like knitting socks out of your handspun!  This fiber was also dyed by Adrian and was spun shortly after I got my wheel.  I think it was the second time I made chained singles! I absolutely love the stripes and fullness of a three ply yarn.  These will be great house socks!

Tonight I’m knitting squares.
