I forgot my knitting

What kind of a knitter forgets her knitting? This kind, apparently. Ugh.
I did take pictures of last week’s spinning, though.
These are the singles I couldn’t decide what to ply with, or whether to ply at all. At the suggestion of several, I decided to leave them as singles. I haven’t set the twist yet, but when I do, I’ll follow Maia‘s suggestion to slightly full the single to resist pilling. I always whack my yarn against the dining room table after spinning out the water, but I’ll give this one an extra whack or two. I think I ended up with close to 300 yards, Corriedale roving. One of these days I’ll actually write this stuff down.
And here’s the yarn I ruined. (I found the shell while canoeing and thought it would match my yarn, and it does!)
Remember this? It started out as this roving:
As you can see, it lightened up a lot and the subtle dots of color didn’t hold. Hate it when that happens! This is So. African Fine wool that I got from Hello Yarn, and this is the third time I’ve spun it. I think this wool would be better as a thicker single, two ply. Each time I’ve spun it, I’ve made chained singles because this wool dyes beautifully and I wanted to keep the colors intact. The above skein is 3.9 ounces, 120 yards, probably a worsted weight.
I have been SO TIRED this week. And I haven’t had to get up at 4:15! What’s up with that? Part of it is because my Pellets of Power (bioidentical hormone pellets) have depleted and geez, this rollercoaster of feeling fine one minute and sweating profusely the next SUCKS ASS!!!! I can actually FEEL myself sliding down that slippery slope of wanting to hole up with my knitting/spinning, bite everyone’s head off and just flat out not caring about anything. Scary, huh? I know all you young’uns are dying to go through this crap. Maybe they’ll have it all figured out before you get here. The good news is that my long-time gyne told me yesterday he offers bioidentical hormone replacement (I am adamantly opposed to synthetics), so I don’t have to go to the “other doctor” who is perfectly nice but has a bunch of idiots running her office. The bad news is that I have to wait at least a week for the stuff to come in. I’m like a junkie who needs her fix. I hope I can last a week without bumping somebody off. Tread lightly, y’all. ;o)
And now Mars is putting rennet in their candy bars?!?!?! WTF???? Sure, gimme a little stomach lining with my chocolate! Yuck! Yes, I’m aware that most cheeses are made with rennet as a thickening agent and that’s something I’ve come to accept because (a) the alternative choices really stink (soy) and (b) I try not to think about it, but please! My chocolate?!?!?! Not that I eat that much chocolate any more, but STILL!!! It’s sad, people. Just sad. Apparently chocolate manufacturers want to use hydrogenated vegetable fats in place of cocoa butter and milk substitutes in place of real milk, and still call their product chocolate. Chocolate without cocoa butter?!? I think not! If you want to maintain the standards currently in place, visit Don’t Mess With Our Chocolate and see what you can do.
This concludes today’s rant. Maybe.

Aha! Validation for my chocolate snobbery. Stick with the snooty imported chocolates and you won’t be faced with this dilemma (hopefully). I’ve just justified my $5 per bar indulgences. In my defense, one bar can easily last a week. Go for the good stuff, Ebeth! You deserve it.

Whole Foods has a fantastic selection of chocolates, too. I want to say I saw vegan chocolate, but I honestly don’t remember.

The best chocolate available at my local stores is Green & Black. To. Die. For. I love the milk chocolate with almond best. The chocolate is not very milky, just silky and delicious.
Please explain to me how you ruined that yarn? It looks gorgeous to me. Let me know if it needs to be rehomed. ;-)

Pretty spinning! I love South African Fine, but I’ve never tried chain plying it. I don’t think your yarn looks that bad at all, but then again, we’re our own harshest critics.

Oh yeah. Very nice way to validate the need to buy organic chocolate bars at the health food store! Yessss. gotta love good reasons to buy chocolate. hehe
Elizabeth this spinning is just so crazy gorgeous! I can’t wait to get back to the spindle VERY SOON! I. Must. Finish. Chemo. Cap.

You can rant with the best of them! Right up there with Rabbitch, I’d say. Sometimes a woman just has to rant, I say.
