I’ve been working diligently on my Tamale Pie socks, so much so that I suffered a good quarter inch stab wound on my right index finger (my needle pushing finger).  Those Knit Picks needles ARE sharp!  This morning I pulled my sock out of the bag to knit a few rows and found this:

Apparently I dropped a stitch a few rows down.  Thanks to the stickyness of wool, it stayed in place until I was alert enough to find it.  I’ve completed the heel on the second sock and hope to have a finished pair soon.  Stockinette stitch and circular needles make for some fast sock knitting!

This morning was weight and measurements at Boot Camp.  I only lost one pound of fat, but two pounds on the actual scale so I’m wondering where the other pound came from.  I hope I didn’t lose any muscle!  I don’t see how I could have, but I haven’t noticed any bones leaking out my ears, so….?  I did lose 2.5 inches from my waist in the past week!!!!!  I’m focusing on that and am going to be really strict with my diet from here on out.  I had a couple of alcohol-related relapses this weekend, nothing terrible, one beer Friday night, a glass of wine with dinner Saturday and a gin and tonic later in the evening, and um, three beers while canoeing Sunday.  Despite all that, my calories were under 1500 each day, but 300 calories from alcohol are empty calories so NO MORE BOOZE until Boot Camp is over!  I’m also going to start bringing my New Balance to work and walking at lunch.

Why all this craziness?  The gym is offering a $250 prize to the person who loses the most weight/inches/fat for this session of Boot Camp and I WANT TO WIN THAT MONEY!!!  I’m not doing this for the money, but a little extra incentive never hurt.  Also – I’ve got seven weeks until the annual beach trip with my size two SIL.  While she’s a lovely person and it’s not a competition, blahblahblah, I still don’t want to look like a cow when I stand next to her.  Ya know?

The weather was absolutely perfect for canoeing.  This was my first time to solo this year and I hit everything pretty much straight on, no swimming in the river for me!  I did drag bottom a lot because our water levels are so low.  It’s going to be a long summer if we don’t get some rain soon.

The Mountain Laurel was in full bloom.

Turtle butt!  He was NOT giving up his spot in the sun.  We got pretty close and he didn’t budge.

Can you spot the moth?  Its wings are a lovely Wedgewood blue color when open, but virtually disappear when closed.

I can sympathize with the sore fingers!!! I use the Knit Picks needles too AND I’m a tight knitter…..just can’t figure out why I haven’t developed callouses!! LOL!! Keep up the good work with boot camp…..that $250 will buy quite a bit of fiber to spin!! LOL!!

Be careful of your wound! Remember my bout with “fiber finger” aka a lovely staph infection? Keep it clean, lay off the knitting until it heals and watch closely for swelling and redness. It took me nearly 2 months to heal completely.

A canoe trip sounds like so much fun! I bet my Lab would love riding with me. (with frequent trips into the river of course)

That extra pound you lost? Did you get a haircut? shave your legs? trim your nails? It could have come off anywhere ;-)

    Great photos!

If you are working out, you are probably replacing fat with muscle and muscle weighs more. The inches will tell the truth. Good luck, I hope you win the $$$ (fiber fund?).

WOW! Yay for weight loss and SUPER Yay for those inches lost in your waist! Feeling the difference in the way your clothes fit is a HUGE motivator! Oh, cash doesn’t hurt either. hehe
