Boot camp: Day One

If I said it wasn’t tough, I’d be lying. What made it much tougher was the iced coffee I had at 7:00 last night, which kept me tossing and turning all night long, looking at the clock every hour and getting more and more anxious as morning approached – three more hours to sleep! Close your eyes! Go to sleep! Oh no, only two more hours! Why can’t I sleep? Ack! It’s time to get up! And I did. Got up at 4:15, washed my face, brushed my teeth, threw on workout clothes and was out the door by 4:30.
The workout was hard, but I know it’ll get easier the more I do it. We did step aerobics, push ups and abs today, but we’ll be doing something entirely different tomorrow. And the day after, and the day after that. This week is going to be the hardest but with my friend Ibuprofen, I’m sure I’ll live through it. My mascara gained 10 lbs. ovenight though, I could hardly lift it this morning!
I told Wendy I’d been forewarned that there was a proselytizer in our class but all she did was hug me today. Probably my beet red face and difficulty breathing acted as a deterrent!
Maia wanted to see a picture of my new haircut, so here ya go:
I was tempted to post an older photograph of myself with the same haircut and about 50 lbs. lighter, but in the spirit of full disclosure I took this this morning. Maybe I’ll have some cheekbones in the next photograph I post! :o) Lastly, Laura asked me to post my list of Eight Reasons to Lose Weight and I’m doing so, but on a separate page in my sidebar, under Getting Fit. I’ll post my weekly progress reports and notes there so that this remains a mostly fiber blog.
Speaking of fiber! I did not do ANY knitting this weekend. That’s the problem with spinning – I don’t have any time to knit any of the yarn I make!
The full bobbin is a little over half of the Wensleydale I dyed last week. I sampled spinning it from the fold and splitting the roving lengthwise and spinning it like I normally do, and my normal method produced a less hairy yarn, so I went with that. I was hoping it would be soft enough for lace, but I really don’t think it is. I then thought that maybe I would ply it with this gorgeous tussah silk I bought from Abby. I love this stuff! I told SB that I never wanted to spin anything else, ever again! I changed to the fastest whorl and made thread, you guys. It was awesome. And now I’m uncertain whether plying it with the Wensleydale will soften it up, or just be a waste of some beautiful silk. So I started spinning some undyed 90s merino last night, thinking that the colors in the silk would really come through when paired with white. But I still don’t know. I’ll take pictures tonight and maybe you guys can offer some direction. In the meantime, here’s the silk predrafted…. oooohhhh…….aaahhhhhh………!
Hope everyone has a great Monday and if you see me with my head down on my desk, please let me sleep!

Cute haircut! The spinning is looking good, too — working with silk is so fun!

Yay for YOUUUUUUUUU!!! :)
You’re so good. I can’t believe you got up at 4:30? Way too early for me. But I did walk at the Y this morning!
Hair cut is great and look at those pretty blue eyes!

Show us the thread! I have a bunch of silk I really want to spin laceweight and make a fabulous shawl with, but I don’t have the concentration at the moment.

There is no way on earth that I could get out of bed that early in the morning and submit my body to that kind of torture. Kudos to you for doing it!
Your haircut looks great, and I love the colors of the Wensleydale.

After talking with you Saturday, I was inspired to grocery shop and prepare healthy meals and snacks for the work week. If I can stick to my food plan for the week I’ll venture into after work exercise next week. I am much more likely to STAY up ’til 4:15 a.m. than to GET up at 4:15 a.m. Way to go E’beth!

[...] I blame Elizabeth at Trailing Yarn for my recent chain-plying binge. Also, when she snagged that October Woods tussah silk, I knew I was in for fun seeing what she did with it, and that particular colourway was a happy accident I had a hard time deciding to part with. [...]
