it doesn’t FEEL like Friday the 13th…

and I hope it doesn’t start to feel like it!  I am really looking forward to this weekend!  I’m going to cook a bunch of healthy foods to eat next week to take out any guesswork that might result in poor choices.  I’m going to work on some fibery projects, maybe spin the Wensleydale I just dyed.  From what I’ve read on-line, Wensleydale might not be well suited for a lace shawl.  Although it’s the softest of the longwool breeds, it’s also pretty hairy and might not be good for next-to-the-skin garments.  I’m going to spin a sample from the fold and see if that reduces the hairy factor to a level that would make it work, but if not, I’ll figure out something else for it.  I know people use it for socks quite often (Maia is making some now) and I would think if it’s soft enough for your feet, it’d be soft enough for your shoulders.  I’m also going to see Ellen Gilchrist speak tomorrow!  She’s awesome; her stories make me cry.  I do wonder why Wikipedia felt the need to mention that she’s been married and divorced numerous times.  Would they make that observation about a male author?

Guess what I did yesterday!  Here’s a hint.

No, I didn’t take up sheep shearing!  After going 19 months without a haircut, I made the appointment and man, do I feel better!  It’s right in keeping with my whole new mindset of living with intent!  I let my hair grow first because I was lazy, and then as I gained weight I think I was hiding behind my hair in some sort of crazed attempt to seem slimmer.  I’ve seen pictures of myself - it wasn’t working.  I’m not in denial anymore.  This is ME and yes, I’m bigger than I used to be, but dang it, “I yam who I yam”  (can’t argue with Popeye!).  THANK YOU SO MUCH for all the good suggestions on how to get enough protein in a veggie diet!!!!!!!!  NPR had a story about folks motivating themselves to lose weight and live healthy and one person suggested making a list of eight reasons to lose weight and carry it with you as a helpful reminder for when your willpower is low.  I am SO going to do this!  I did it when I quit smoking, put the list on my visor in my car because that’s where I smoked the most, and it really helped.

This is the only knitting I have to show:

This started out to be a Bainbridge Scarf from Pepperknit (pattern in her left sidebar), which I think would be an excellent use of small amounts of handspun, but I got about halfway through and figured out that I have more yardage than I remembered, so now it’s a really big swatch!  Yes, I could probably make two but I can’t bring myself to cut my handspun.  It’s one of the first yarns I made on my wheel and when I use it, I want to use it ALL!  I am definitely going to use this pattern though, it’s well written, easy and would make a wonderful last minute present.  You could even use luxury yarn and not break the bank.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!  Here’s a little Eye Candy Friday for ya:

My neighbor’s antique bourbon rose, Madame Isaac Periere, 1881.  You wouldn’t believe the fragrance this rose has!  Divine!

It really doesn’t feel like an unlucky day! Thanks for the link to the scarf. What a great idea for homespun. I like the sock patterns, too. The rose is so beautiful…I love the smell of old roses.

Your yarn is so pretty! That is an interesting pattern too. Maybe this yarn want to be a bigger scarf?

Are we going to see you with your new ‘do?

And, is it just me, or was your first thought “I wonder if I could spin that?”.

I’m looking forward to reading your 8 reasons if you’ll share them! My neighbor, Mr. W., has said he’ll show me how to propogate roses from his antique roses! I better get over there and talk to him before he dies or something because I really really want some of those roses! :)

Ooh, that WIP pic is so tantalizing! I can’t wait to see how it comes out- great use of handspun!
