Once I started, I

Yesterday I had to stay home from work with the boy who had strep.  He wasn’t feeling bad but his doctor said he might still be contagious and couldn’t return to school.  I thought it would be a great use of this unexpected free time to finish up my Rambling Rose cardigan.  But first I wanted to finish spinning what I started at last week’s Spin Study.  Then I wanted to ply it.  Once I finished plying it, I wanted to set the twist.  After a 30 minute soak in a wee bit of conditioner (because this fiber was ROUGH, I guess I felted it a little while dyeing) and an afternoon hanging on the clothesline, here’s how it turned out:

Jelly Beans on the left, Vintage Hankies on the right.  Both are chained singles and both are around 260 yards.  I have more of the Vintage Hankies dyed roving, but I wanted to spin something I’ve had in my fiber stash for quite awhile.

California Variegated Mutant, CVM for short.  That’s the first 4 oz. bobbin and here’s the second:

The true color is somewhere in between.  I wasn’t wild about this right after I dyed it; I thought the purples were too dark and there wasn’t enough tone-on-tone.  SB said he liked it, and I have to admit, it’s spinning up much better than I’d hoped!  I’m trying my darnedest to spin this thicker but it’s difficult to do without thick and thin spots.  Everyone says that once you start spinning thin, it’s hard to go back and they are 100% right!  Even though I’m becoming more and more a fan of chained singles, I’ll probably make this a two-ply to get more yardage.  The CVM is really soft and very nice to spin.  It has a lot of bounce and I can tell this will be a lofty yarn.

Mack feigns disinterest, but he was sniffing the yarn just a second ago.

Okay, you’ve hoarded your treasures long enough. When are you going to start selling your yarn? It’s better looking than 93% of the fibre on the market!

Your yarn is looking so good and I really like the CVM that you dyed.

DANG, strep is making the rounds. I know several people (including ME) who have it. Blech.
Nice yarns – I love the purples.

Ugh — sorry about the strep, that sucks. Your spinning is just gorgeous!
