Man!

Someone just stole my picture of my very first socks!  They could’ve had it if they’d asked.  I’ve requested that they remove it from their site.  From the looks of their blog, they’re making this a habit. 

Now I feel really bad about using the quilt picture I found on flickr.  But at least I gave them credit AND I saved the picture to my own server.  I’m going to email and ask for permission and if it’s granted, I’ll repost.  Otherwise, I’ll take a picture myself!

People need to learn to play nice.

Update!  I just got a reply email saying “We apologize and will honor your request.”  I suppose it didn’t hurt that the email they were replying to came from a law firm!  Heh.  Thanks for all your support, especially “anonymous” and Amy, for enlightening the store with your comments!  What would I do without you guys?

    Looks like a blog for a store, and they just snagged your pic because it represented the yanr they’re trying to sell. Ironically, they have a post earlier on that describes blogging and what it is, and the “rules”. Oy.
    On a completely unrelated note, why does your comment text box span the page and go under your sidebar?

    I have no idea, I’m completely computer illiterate. It doesn’t do that on my computer, either the Dell at the office or the Mac at home.

    Is it doing that for anyone else?

    They are hot linking the pictures, too. That means they are using YOUR bandwidth. Bad form all around.

    Grr. That stinks. It’s so easy to pirate things on the World Wide Web. I left them a comment saying what I thought of that.

    And yes, the comment text is winding under the sidebar.

    You know, I bet it’s because I added copyright text to my footer. I’ll delete it and see if that fixes it.

    Hi– I’m the bad guy!! I am the one that stole the picture!! And I apologize. We are a new yarn shop and our blog is even newer. I am new to the world of blogging (and creating internet sites in general) and am still learning the rules. Elizabeth and I have chatted and she has very generously agreed to let us use her photo (uploaded onto our site and w/ a link back to her blog, of course!) until we can knit up a sample on our own. After this experience I have learned what “in-linking” is and why its a problem, so I will be making some changes to the way that I blog. This has been a learning lesson and a mistake, but I promise I wasn’t trying to “steal” anything. Sorry for all the angry feelings!!

    The socks are pretty, though. That little sock is so cute. Someone else I know is in this kal and was working on her tee-niny sock the last time I saw her. I won’t name names, though. Don’t want to spoil anyone’s surprise. Worked on my own tiny (newborn) socks today with some leftover meleinweit. The striping effect doesn’t work very well on baby socks does it. For now I am cutting and restarting at different color points in the yarn to get the effect I want. Geesh! I never knew I could be so picky!

    I’m glad that it all has worked out and wasn’t anything sinister. I’ve read quite a bit lately about people’s photos and even blog text having been stolen and reposted elsewhere. Do you mind me asking how it was that you found out that your picture was posted on the other site? I’m pretty new to blogging, but other than checking the referral pages on Sitemeter (which I always find interesting), I’m not sure how I would ever know if someone had copied and pasted one of my posts somewhere else. Again, glad that your experience turned out to be nothing shady!
