Internets, don’t fail me now

What a lovely way to start a Saturday. A nice cup of coffee in my new mug from Bella Knitting, freshly cut Lenten Rose blossoms, my cardigan and a happy kitty. I was feeling pretty confident when I took this picture. I’d knit 6 rows of the yoke and had 20 grams left in the ball. Everything was wonderful until I read a little further in the directions.
Repeat Rows 1-8 three times.
My confidence began to wane. Bravely, I knit on. Managed a total of 10 rows before running out of yarn. With a potential 24 rows to go BEFORE the shoulder short rows and only two more balls of yarn, the grim realization hit home.
I am not going to have enough yarn.
I lay the cardi aside and went to my guild meeting, which was a field trip to Bare Hands Gallery to meet the Guatamalean weavers and admire their handiwork.
Suzi is getting some instruction from one of the weavers. Look at that beautiful blouse she’s wearing!
The elder weaver (I’m so bad, I didn’t get their names – language barrier) stopped to spin more cotton yarn.
This quilt was one of many items they offered for sale. The prices were very reasonable and the quality and creative beauty amazing. I bought a couple of small things but lusted after everything!
After the meeting, I came into the office, where I’m typing this now, to search the internets for more Debbie Bliss Cotton DK color 13008 yarn. Just 1-2 balls. Anyone? Bueller? I hit 12 pages of Google links without luck (other than seeing that someone recently destashed THIS VERY YARN and of course, I missed it). So I’ve put a post on the Knitlist Yahoo group and am keeping my fingers crossed. My one save may be that my row gauge is way off, the 10 rows of the yoke I’ve done measure almost 2″ and the entire yoke is only supposed to be 5″ so I can probably finish the yoke with a little over one ball. Leaving one ball for the shoulder short rows and NO yarn for the neckband or button bands.
Just one more ball would do it, I think. I’m knitting on. I ran a lifeline when I joined the pieces, but I’m choosing to be foolish and waste my time to think positively and have faith that SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE has a ball or two hiding in their stash, that they really don’t want and would be happy to sell to me.
I do. I believe it. Really. You gotta have faith, right? Thank you, George Michael.

Oh, that really stinks! I wish I had some I could send you, but I tend to stubsitute for a lot of Debbie Bliss yarn. You could try emailing or calling the place you got it to see it they have some more of that dye lot or a similar dye lot. I find that suppliers often know which dye lots can pass for each other. Otherwise take EZ’s advice and just alternate between the two dye lots about every three rows. No one will be any wiser, unless you tell them. I hope that you find some!

If you were here you would see the big big smile on my face. Not only do I see you are enjoying the Bella Knitting mug but I grabbed a glass of wine and spent some time reading through your blog. Nicely done. Great photos and I really hope you find your yarn. I am sure you will. Congrats on winning our blog contest and thanks for entering.

I hate to even leave a comment beucase I have no help for you. I have never used Debbie Bliss of any kind (I have a grudge about the lack of schematics in her patterns). I will cross my fingers and hold my breath for you.

Alas, I do not have the yarn, but if I did, I’d send it to you!
The Guatemalan weavers are amazing — how impressive. I would have had SUCH a hard time not buying that quilt though. :-)

Didn’t ya know? There’s this magic trick that if you knit faster, you won’t run out of yarn. It only works sometimes, but somehow I can’t make myself not knit faster when I’m running out of yarn.
Right about now, I’d be thinking what else I had in my stash to add as an accent/design element, and where it would look better, down near the bottom of the yoke, or closer to the top? Maybe a contrasting ribbing? You could crochet more of that around the sleeves and bottom… total design element. Or I’d also be considering making a lower neckline than the pattern calls for, and just generally knitting. a lot. very fast.
Good luck!
The Weavers are outstanding – I’d be coveting too :-)
