I’m having a lunchtime affair

I haven’t forgotten about Rambling Rose.  All the pieces are joined together on one needle and I’m two rows into the yoke (which is like, nothing).  But she’s big.  And bulky.  Too big for car knitting, too bulky to lug back and forth to work.  I see now why I made such remarkable progress (for me) on her – those small pieces are easy to tote and knitting for 15 minutes here and a lunch hour there really add up to some stitches.  Quite honestly, I don’t even like her sitting on my lap for TV knitting.  She smothers me; I feel suffocated.  Maybe that’s why I’ve never knit large items before – socks and scarves and mittens are little.  Cute.  Dainty.  Fun!  One can BREATHE while knitting them.  Rose is fun too, but not in the same way.  Now the fun part is dreaming about getting her DONE and off the needles!  Which of course won’t happen with the way I’ve been neglecting her.  Maybe this weekend.

Since I DO have 15 minutes here and a lunch hour there to fill up, this is what I’ve chosen to work on instead of Rose.

It’s the Creeping Vines sock by Evelyn Skae, knit from my handspun.  And yes, I DO knit in my car at lunchtime!  Then I eat lunch at my desk.

I’m hoping I’ll lose weight with this regimen.  I used to go home for lunch, but the 20-30 minute drive can really cut into your knitting time.  So I pack my lunch, move my car to a sunny spot if it’s chilly out, and knit in peace and quiet.  I used to go to lunch with friends a lot and I do miss that; I miss the commaraderie and the change of scenery, but there just isn’t enough time to do housework, cook meals, study for social studies tests (I hate to break it to you, but I’m not as smart as a fifth grader!), keep your spouse happy, make sure you have clean underwear AND knit.  There just isn’t.  Not in my life anyway.

If anyone out there has developed a flux capacitor, would you please share the specs?

Oh man… your lunch really goes with those socks somehow. And makes me want your lunch. Mmmmmm.

If you’re not as smart as a 5th grader, you’re one or two up on me; I’m outwitted by a third grader. I have dreams of going back to the gym and just using the elliptical machine for a while, regularly, but I haven’t managed to work it into my present routine yet. There’s a lot of stuff I can’t seem to fit into my average day, like getting all the laundry actually folded…

I do that too! Another time I find to do a few rows is after I’ve washed The Bug
in the bath, while he plays in the water.

Um, sorry, don’t know the specs for the flux capacitor, but I’ve heard you can buy one here:

But be sure to read the reviews first. :-)

    Socks! In a Car!

I love it that you’re knitting socks with your very own handspun yarn — now THAT is cool.

I honestly don’t know how you do it all with the work, the spinning, the hiking, the knitting (and of course clean underwear too). The apples and PB look wonderful.
